First of all, its not illegals they want, its population. Secondly, the it is the politicians that wants to prevent immigration that is playing games. Why? Because immigration is required for national success and in USA's case, avoid a looming future disaster.

The birthrate in USA is 1.786 births per woman. That is below replacement rate. Without new people coming in that would mean that USAs population would shrink. Historically the human population has always increased, not decreased which means every single economic policy we have (such as capitalism) and everything within our society has been designed with a growing population in mind.

Our modern society is literally not built to function with a decreasing birth rate which means that if we let it happen, we are basically screwed. As such, accepting immigration is not an optional thing for most developed countries, its a national requirement to avoid a very real collapse. Of course not everyone sees it this way. The Republicans has seen immigration as a way to engage their voters which means they keep hyping up fear surrounding it, as well as sabotage efforts to accept immigration for their own political benefit. This includes Republicans willingly allowing illegal immigration to become a problem.

The reason you have millions of illegal immigrants running around instead of millions of legal immigrants contributing to your economy is because the Republicans has ruined the immigration system to the point where its not even realistically possible for most people around the world. You ask why there are so many illegals? This is why and its the Republicans fault.

It is however telling that they too understand that immigration is required for USA. They might go on about building walls or deportations but that is only because they understand that these measures are pointless and won't do anything. Again, it is all about winning votes rather than solving the problem which is they think is actually a feature.

Lastly, if you want to talk about a trillion dollar business you should consider where the money goes to build the walls and all the other harebrained schemes they come up with. Its the perfect place for them to siphon off taxpayer money since they would prefer if these projects actually failed in the first place.

Immigration is how usa became the world power. In the same way more money makes even more money immigration naturally keeps up.

The best thing to do is make the whole globe economically viable and people move for the people and culture and nothing else matters. But that's a communist Utopia.

Cheap labor for the corporations they're invested in. Cheap laborers around the house/yard. Votes (currently for Dems, but it used to be for Republicans). Hatred of certain demographics and wanting to reduce them. Having a less defiant population because they tend to import groups that worship governments (even if they hate criminal laws).

At the time the cost of getting to America for even such easily integrate (already similar) people was enough to limited the flow to a small enough % of the population as to integrate them.

If you wanted to import southern Europeans for example it would need to be even fewer due to their very different ideas about family and socialization.
