France has just banned the abaya from schools. What do you think of this ban?

What @WindAtMyBack said.
On top of that and being french: The idea here is about maintaining secularism in public schools, because religion has been declared a personal matter since a long time already. We have a private school system for those interested in wearing clothes related to religion at school.
They did not only ban the abaya. Nor did they target Islam. They ban ALL religious articles in school. All they have done is declare the abaya to be a religious article.
You could argue whether they should be banning religious articles at all. You could argue whether an abaya is a religious article. But they have not specifically targeted the abaya or Islam.
It's not exactly harming anyone is it so why ban it other than to delight the far right. It's worth remembering that until fairly recently it was illegal for women in America to wear trousers, this just seems a step in that direction.
I'll take some umbrage with this. Do you really not think this is harmful to women to be forced to cover up from head to toe? I picture you as something of a feminist which means if I asked you a decade ago you would've found it revolting that women are put into bags. Am I incorrect?
I'm not convinced this law was brought in to protect these women from men forcing a dress code on them.
@purplepoppy
Did you read the article? The attorney general of the US does not have the power to make or eliminate laws. We have a legislative and judicial branch for that. The AG is the nation's top prosecutor. That office does not and never did have the power to declare if women can wear pants. Him saying that is it OK for women to wear pants was , in effect , him just speaking his personal opinion.
So it's still illegal?
That’s awful to hear. They shouldn’t banned it. This traditional garment conceals the body shape and helps maintain a modest appearance, aligning with Islamic principles of dress and behavior.

The ban is in keeping with French republican traditions. Understandably, the French do not want women to be forced to wear it. And there are dozens of majority Muslim countries where someone can reside if they want to wear the abaya.
It is basically a religious requirement. If France is willing to pay for the women to go to private schooling, then let them shell out the money.
I think it is disrespectfull. I Hope it comes back.
Abaya is ridiculous, so it's normal that it's banned. Everyone must dress according to the era.
U supposed to be more ridiculous than abaya
Nope that is u
🤦♂️
I'm Turkish too
Tell me what an abaya is and I'll let you know.
What you see in the picture
On one hand, people should be free to wear what they want but, there IS a kind of clothing etiquette that should be adhered to in certain situations. I don't think that should be allowed in schools.
It’s their country so their rules. If muslims don’t like france law then they should get out.
Good. I think Europeans should take their cultures back. They're likely going to have to fight for it though.
If they don't like it, they can suck it up or leave the country.
It's a dress code. They are arbitrary by nature.
Wrong, anyone should wear whatever they want.
They wany to keep france, France
Not in France so I don't care.
Don't care.
Very good.
I applaud it
