There is an adrenaline rush people get by mocking the other side of the political aisle.

There also a feeling of superiority. When you mock someone else for being dumber then yourself then you usually makes you feel better about your own decisions, morals and intelligence. This mindset has literally become a subconscious addiction for many people.

But one thing I’ve noticed in over the last 10+ years is more and more people believe admitting fault = admitting defeat. Sure there are always have been headstrong and narrow minded opinionated people.

But nowadays we argue politics like school children on playgrounds. The idea is to never ever give an inch because the other side. They are after all an antagonistic “bully” who will pounce if you show any sign of weakness whatsoever.

I just remember a time it wasn’t like this. For example I could say George W. Bush’s goal of “establishing democracy in the Middle East” was naive at best and but more likely completely asinine & moronic. I could say that as a moderate conservative. I even had that conversation with a former recon marine with was deployed to Iraq and he completely agreed with me.

But fewer and fewer people want to play devils advocate nowadays. Part of the problem are echo chambers along with an insanely partisan media. But the scarier problem is people keep doubling down and doubling down. Nobody wants to find common ground because that might be “too nice” and giving comfort to “the enemy” or some bs

Some people will exclusively blame Trump for this problem but I saw this happening years before he ran for president. I dealt with a very real cancel culture situation at my old job back in 2014. I tonight it was an isolated incident until I heard of several other incidents nationwide.

That’s the problem about commercially driven media outlets and “entertainment”.

American mass media outlets have long had a leftist bias. But they used to do a much better job at keeping it on the DL. But this all started to change when Obama ran for president. They took things a step further at shielding him from negative press just because he was leftist minority. Then when Trump blatantly called them (crassly but he had a point) they all just doubled down. Conservatives lost all trust in legacy media and then turned to radio talk show hosts. Some factually good (Daily Wire and Ben Shapiro) but others are complete nut jobs (Alex Jones).
