I was obviously young during Katrina but my very little reading of it was that new Orleans denied federal aid leading up to the hurricane then the mayor and governor blamed Bush. Bush was crucified for taking 3 days to go but Biden took 7 and his controlled air spaces are actively interfering with rescue ops.

$750 now, $700 to Hawaii and the Haitians in the hotel down the street from me get 2 meals a day, a room, a phone and $600 a month from the state I live in despite massive local backlash. The government really does hate us lol

Nothing with the cards or anything really happened for like weeks though. New Orleans stayed flooded for over a month if I remember right. We still reject federal aid money for a lot of things, it's because they expect us to pay in a portion of what we receive. If we reject it until a catastrophe is looming though, they'll foot the bill.

It's why we don't own our levees, the pumping stations in Orleans, etc. But yeah, if I was higher up and had to deal with the sweaty, greedy, thieving water board that lost half a billion on a small infrastructure project with no receipts, in a city that this year just stopped receiving Katrina money, and made no real infrastructure upgrades with any of it.

We are sending soon to be out dated military equipment for a soon to be overhaul of our military. Like all standard use rifles are changing with new ammo type. So they are more or less worthless. So sending it to Ukraine in a lean lease will give some money back compared to all other alternatives.

So long as China wants Taiwan or north Korea wants south Korean we have to keep our protection promises. If we don't all our western allies will turn coat and use all of our military bases against us.

1: Most of the "Money" given to Ukraine is in the form of weapons that was produced back in the cold war. I am not sure how useful artillery shells would be for hurricane victims.

Of course that $8,000,000,000 won't find its way back into us taxpayer hands and when this war proves unprofitable the Ukrainians will be abandoned.
