Is it ignorant how people associate age with the ability to defend themselves in this case?

I had some people say a 20 year old man can't defend himself against a 56 year old and the 56 year old can rape him or beat him.

I think this is ridiculous because most 20 year olds I know are much fitter than the average 50 something year old. In most cases the 20 year old would beat up the 56 year old.

Average 20 year old is a scrawny runt. A man only starts developing serious muscular in his late 20s, early 30s unless he's abusing steroids like it's water.

Average 56 year old is neither unfit nor overly fit but more fit than the average 20 year old. Particularly those who have manual labour jobs like construction, trucking, etc. or physically intense jobs like hunting, military, etc. They'd not even break a sweat.

As for the rest - about rape or beating - I suggest you STOP hanging out with gutter trash. That sort of mentality is disgusting and filthy.

I think you just might be underestimating the majority of mid 50's men have. Especially the ones with jobs where they are using their body like truck drivers, any construction worker, military personnel and other occupations where they use their hands and arms.

I’m much stronger now at my age than when I was 20 years old because of my years at my physical job, I was strongest in my mid 30s actually and most 20 year olds I see now are out of shape especially when I seem to do more than they can physically which is a-shame, kids are not as active anymore and doing stuff outside like my generation did.

Yeah I guess, I’m basing it off of my experience and guys I work with and what I see , there’s plenty of guys my age that are on daily meditations and can’t do much physical things either , it really depends how you take care of yourself

Age has far less to do with it than genetics and overall fitness. Imagine Shaq at 20 - he'd be able to beat most men of any age.

At the same time, a fit 57 year old who is mean and doesn't care could destroy tons of 20 year olds.

Maybe they meant that it's wrong for the 20 year old to hurt the 56 year old because of how much younger and fitter he is. And that the 56 year old should get away with all of it because he's old. I've seen weirder shit. Pretending a 20 year old is less fit than a 56 year old is definitely weirder.

I don't think it's so black and white. But SOME 20 year olds are still pretty boyish and MANY 50 or so year olds are more bulked up. And experienced in being assertive. That angry dad vibe could intimidate younger men. But this is not a rule and some 20 year olds are manly and strong and fit. And some 50+ men be skinny and not manly.

So it really isn't about age at all. And it's really not ok either way round in regards to who can beat who.

Age alone is not an indicator of size, physique, training, experience, strength, agility, speed, power, guile or anything associated with brutish physicality. Heck there are probably small 50 something guys AND women who'd kick the balls off of even a jacked 20 something because of training alone.

That's a first that I've heard of people thinking that a older man would beat up a younger man. Usually unless that older man is a martial artist the general consensus is that a younger man will normally have the advantage over the older man. Even though I personally think age isn't everything and you can't always judge by age

Age doesn’t matter as much as the person’s skill and mind set. Most older guys have been fighting for a longer time and have learned a few tricks. I can’t kick as high or as fast as I could in my late twenties. But older guys will avoid a fight or end it very quickly

Definitely depends on the individuals. I know plenty of guys around the age of 56 that could easily beat me, or any other guys I know my age, or older. And vice versa I know plenty of guys my age, or a little bit older that could easily take out some men in their 50’s.
