Now that their leader has been assassinated, they may decide for their own safety, to make nuclear bombs and extend the range of their missiles so they can bomb NYC, Washington, DC, and other USA cities. Only when their lives are in danger will USA politicans make peace with Iran.

Not that Ali Khamenei has been assassinated, Iran may decide that their safety requires building nuclear bombs and missiles that can drop a nuclear bomb in Washington, DC, NYC, and any city in the United States. They have the ability to do both. They know, the politicians don't care how many Americans die, but their lives are most important. Iran knows that the USA will not attack if it means the politicians' lives are at risk.

It actually makes things safer if they do have nuclear weapons, because then the US will leave them alone, finally. The US has a long history of never attacking a country that has a nuclear weapon. Even the US government is not that stupid.

Nobody knows for sure. But they have had a dedicated nuclear weapons program for quite some time now. And I strongly suspect that Russia, as a now 100% pariah state, is giving Iran further covert assistance.

Even if they were able to purchase them as opposed to making them, the effect in the end is the same. The US is not going to come anywhere near them if that's the case. I think US intelligence information at this point is that they don't have any, and they have not made any as yet. Bet Trump's little war has encouraged them to accelerate their nuclear program.
