Do you treat people as individuals?

I get so sick of the internet sometimes.

• Women do this to men.
• Venezuelans are like that.
• Republicans think X.
• Democrats lie about Y.

In reality, there are sane, hardworking Venezuelans. There are women who respect men, and aren't trying to trap them or steal their money. There are kind Democrats. There are Republicans who are not trying to kill all trans people.

People are people. In real life, I rarely run into anyone who boxes me and discounts everything I say because I am in a box they hate. On the internet, it seems people only listen long enough to put everyone in a box, and then they can hit like or block with a clear conscience.

I have a different approach.

I treat people as people. If you are mean, I treat you like a meanie. If you are stupid, I treat you like an idiot. If you are kind, I am kind. If you are funny, I'll joke around with you. I don't care what box you fit in, I never have.

I agree with you completely.
Certain groups are obnoxious, but I don't stereotype individuals. Nobody fits into a nice neat box. I certainly don't. I'm all over the map because I don't subscribe to any ideology. I develop opinions on individual issues based on what I know so far. And I can modify or change my opinions as more information becomes available.

It doesn't follow that just because I subscribe to X opinion that it must follow that I also subscribe to A, B, C, ...
Some liberals, especially Democrats, think I am a conservative or Republican, and some conservatives think I am a liberal, because they make assumptions.


I know wonderful liberals and conservatives. I'm often surprised by how much we have in common even if we disagree on some issues.

I am white, agnostic and heterosexual. But I have met the most wonderful Christians, Muslims and people of other beliefs. I have met the most wonderful black people, Asians and people of other races, ethnicies and nationalities. I have met wonderful LGBT people.

So yes, I judge individuals on an individual basis.

Sometimes it's just easier to generalized and that's why people do it, deep down everyone knows that people are individual and have differences but sometimes depending on the topic, there's lots of similarities, so many that generalization isn't a huge step, for example when it comes to politics, for the most part, each side has similar views so they are generalized, it doesn't mean they are exactly the same but share many similarities, sometimes that majority is so big that people would assume that one is like the rest, I agree that generalization can be toxic but I believe that depends on how they are generalized and why.

I try not to generalize, and many of my opinions are posted saying that when a question does try to generalize.

Crazy loud minority is generalized. I guess because the same outrage fuels them instead of individual thinking.

i do, and i treat people based on how they treat me and others, not because of their religion or what they watch on tv, at the end of the day we are all humans.
