Several meanings and perspectives:
Consensus in Genetics:
Races do not exist.
"[...] human populations share most of their genetic variation and that there is no scientific support for the concept that human populations are discrete, non-overlapping entities. Furthermore, by offering the means to assess disease-related variation at the individual level, new genetic technologies may eventually render race largely irrelevant in the clinical setting. Thus, genetics can and should be an important tool in helping to both illuminate and defuse the race issue."
Language, meanings and evolution:
Since English, as a language, spawned a lot of terms related to races, it's going to take some time, as expected, in order to undo what has been engraved in language customs. Any language evolution is slow, and not really predictable for that matter.
Confusion between race and ethnicity:
Ethnicity does exist, that is unquestionable. Racism is probably more often ostracism about ethnicity, culture perceived as menacing. I believe the supporters of biological racism are few. But the supporters of ostracism are, obviously, many. Another topic and a vast one.
Yes, how do we do that?
Second!!
What does that even mean? Be done with? Why? …race is a real thing. That’s just a stand alone fact. Maybe you could elaborate more?
And call it ethnicity. I'm white, red haired blue eyed Irish girl
There were people with so much incest in their DNA in the us that they turned blue. The us had to outlaw cousin marraige and uncle/aunt marriages while nobody in Ireland or the UK would do that. Also look at the pornography the us is pushing on the world.

No. That's just forgetting convenient history, which we would ultimately be doomed to repeat. There is a cause and effect to everything, and the vast majority of it didn't unfold right in front of any individual person.
Like today there is a law where native American children actively won't be adopted by other races. Face value That's weird but historically the United States of America government actively stole native American children from their families into white Christians. As a way to "kill the Indian save the man."
But that was a long time ago you could say. It's not. My uncle one year older then my mother was introduced back to the family only 5 years ago by that very government policy.
In Canada 2021 Kamloops Indian Residential School discovered unmarked graves as recently as 1970. Just entering retirement age today.
Then we got the middle east and how both world wars fuck those areas up in a similar hap hazard colonialism that ultimately bites our ass off in our lazy way of doing it before.
Ultimately ignorance is what breeds intolerance which leads to genocide. So I don't think there is a way of doing away with race that isn't ignorance looping back to genocide. Maybe nirvana but at the expense of others, you now what never mind.
You mean it's all In Utero?
never really been that much of a thing to me... anyway
No, sometimes it is a useful concept, and in any event there is no way you are going to "just get rid of it".
I avoid it as best I can. But race is not culture or ideology and culture cannot be ignored
No.
Race is evident, it's obvious, we all notice and acknowledge it with our predispositions and judgements. All we did was add labels.
Yes. But keep the 5K - it's the only one I used to be able to do and hope to do so again someday...
The best way to get rid of it is to stop talking about it.
No it doesn't lol. Morgan Freeman can set you straight:

For some things the concept of races useful. Black people for example can more often get sickle cell anemia and that protects them from malaria. That was a specific biological adaptation.
Eskimos can eat things we can't straight up, that's a biological adaptation.
My eyes are blue and my skin is fair, allowing me to take in more sunlight in multiple ways. That is a biological adaptation.
Black people get about three SBF with their darker skin, that is a biological adaptation.
Etc.
The idea that people are different be done away with? No. Why is it so bad to be different?
More like culture should be done away with.
