1 yBanning religion would be a far better option. I don't drink all that much. I have had a 6 pack in the fridge for about 3 months now. But religion has hurt far far far more people then alcohol. If you want to believe in a invisible force , and follow arbitrary rules made up by men that wanted to control people, that is your business. But never bring it into a discussion as a rational reason for anything. Religion is made up. They used it to control people because, hundreds and thousands of years ago, people were even more barbaric then they are now. Again, if that is what you want to believe, and you keep it to yourself and not try and push it on others, awesome. But as soon as you try and push that nonsense on other people, you have crossed a line.

1 yThe US tried that once in the 1920s, it was called Prohibition and it didn't work. It encouraged criminal gangs and a black market, and was repealed several years later.
Not religiously appropriate? Tell that to a Catholic or Anglican priest. Wine is an important item in the Mass.
70 Reply @Melanie31 please research the history of the banning of alcohol in the United States during the 1920s. We refer to that period as "Prohibition". It was in short, a disaster. It lead to the rise of powerful organized crime. Alcohol is entirely to easy to produce, all you need is something with sugar in it and yeast. I understand, alcohol causes many problems, but prohibition didn't stop alcohol production or consumption and added even more problems. In the end here in the US, even the people that campaigned for the ban, admitted it was a failure.
10 Reply2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Well, if we're looking at absolute harms then religion would have to take the cake. Religious people seem to revel in bloodletting. You absolutely hate each other. Jews hate Muslims. Muslims hate Jews. You even hate each other within the same religion. So if we want to spare more lives I would be in favour of banning religion.

1 yNo. As long as you don't get drunk, you're fine. It's only bad when you do because it means you've drank more than your body can handle. I personally have never gotten drunk and don't ever want to (plus, a med I take says I can't have lots of alcohol anyway). At your age you shouldn't be drinking stuff like that anyway, so it's best for you to stay away from it until you're old enough to drink.
20 Reply 12K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. They tried and failed... Prohibition. Banning things which are inevitable just creates a black market and more crime. Weed, got example. Also Prostitution. Also, in this country, Guns. Governments should resort to reasonable Constitutional licensing, regulation and taxation, around the edges.

We TRIED banning it? Prohibition? Black markets, false & deadly products, crime, etc. You can't ban it. 4:5 drink alcohol. Get over it!10 Reply
1 yI think alcohol is okay but I do feel some people need to handle it responsibly. I don’t think they will ever banned it like did in the 1920s when there was prohibition on alcohol because there was more crime and gangsters bootlegging and me even worse if they did it today.

1 yLast time alcohol was banned it did not go down well... Also alcohol is absolutely religiously appropriate Jesus turned water into wine. Being drunk is a sin but drinking alcohol is not.

1 yIn the US it was in the 1920's, it was called "Prohibition" and the mafia and bootleg, black market alcohol boomed and crime went up. It was eventually cancelled as it became apparent that people were going to drink no matter what.

1 yI'm a pioneer myself but that's a personal choice. You know jesus turned water into wine and the bible is full of quotes about wine and vineyards.
34 Reply- 1 y
Of course and the Bible says a little wine gor the stomachs sake, it also speaks about avoiding strong drink and thst drunkenness is a sin. On the other hand the Lord's supper as Jesus laid it out uses a fully broken loaf of bread to represent his body given for you on the cross or slso referred to calvary's tree. The cup of wine represents his blood poured out for you and is referred to as the cup of the new covenant in his blood. So a prohibitionist csn never take part in thd Lord's Supper of as is also called communion as Jesus presented you have to partake of wine, usually a port of some sort.

Well the Bible does speak of it and I just read the other day that scientists and anthropologists have found proof that man was making alcohol as early as the stone age and we know that brandy or cognac is just distilled wine and was initially used for medicinal reasons. Rum of course has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Each person has their own beliefs about religion or secular and if appropriate.
We can’t make laws that are "religious coercion".

Anonymous(36-45)1 yDo you know where the English word alcohol comes from. It comes from Arabic. Muslim governments didn't take the Islamic alcohol ban seriously until recent times and a lot of fine wines came from Islamic Spain. The caliphs realized that not everyone is a pampered self-proclaimed prophet with plenty to eat and a dozen wives and innumerable concubines to help him with emotional issues.
10 ReplyNo. What are you some kind of dictator? If people act responsibly it doesn’t need to be banned.
20 Reply6.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In the US we don't make laws based on religion. Maybe your religion doesn't permit alcohol, but most do. Anyway it's so easy to make that it's impossible to ban.
10 ReplyIt's not healthy for you but neither is smoking tobacco or weed or vaping or eating fast food like a glutton. But I doubt no of these things will ever be banned, people just need to use them in moderation.

10 Reply 2.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Who cares about religiously appropriate? Religion is for easily misled simpletons. Some people can't handle their liquor, and some people are fine when drinking
20 ReplyIt shouldn't be illegal tbh. Why ban everything, when it will still be consumed. I see the point of it being really bad for the body, but still, forbidding everything isn't the way. And it wouldn't be possible at that moment.
