So I'm asking this because I've always suspected that I have a learning disability that prevents me from absorbing information the same way most people do. For example, at work they were teaching us how to close and open the store, activate the alarm system, which functions to use, etc. Everyone quickly picked up on it and I had to take a few minutes to wrap my head around it and actually perform it once or twice to get the gist. This applies to many things that should be "obvious" but they are not to me. It also took me a long time to manage driving and be able to tie everything together such as hand eye coordination, managing rules of the road, making my body do what I want it to, etc. It always feels like I want my body to perform something and my mind understands it but my body doesn't cooperate. It's hard to explain.
On the other hand, I have a really good grasp on psychology, how people operate, what drives people/their intentions, how most people in the room are feeling at any given time, and picking up on the subtleties and nuances of a situation. I am really good at empathizing with people and reading between the lines. My natural inclination is to feel what other people feel and to put myself in their shoes very easily. I guess that would be called emotional intelligence but if you were to ask me about anything historical or political, I would flop. I don't have the mind for history or political debates and even geographical stuff. For some reason, I feel overwhelmed with this type of information and doesn't come naturally to me. Could someone tell me what learning disability I have or other things you suspect might be causing this?
All this to say, do any of you feel really smart in some areas but stupid in others? Please provide examples :) Thanks guys!
