What is an American tradition that makes sense to you, but not for others who live outside the USA?

There's a lot honestly. If I have to list all of them we'll be hear all day, but the biggest ones I see are

Volunteering. The idea that someone would voluntarily work for no pay.

Sales tax. Not the idea of having a sales tax but the issue of, why stores can't just include it on the price tag?

Our election process. In other countries election campaigns take at most 2 weeks, here they take 2 YEARS. They also find our electoral college strange and find it strange that we vote on a Tuesday

Our drinking laws. The fact at 18 we can enlist in the military and kill people but not drink, and also how they ask for ID EVERYWHERE

Forced Jury Duty

Our obsession with guns, our flag and our soldiers

Customer is always right mentality

Free refills and free condiments

Thanksgiving. I was the same being a foreigner. Like it's less than a month b4 Christmas, there was already Halloween and in England there's guy fawkes on the 5th buy basically it's a national harvest festival and celebrates the early pilgrims making it through the winter when other English colonies had failed. It's routed in American prodestantism but nearly everyone in America celebrates it as like a family feast day. I celebrate it with my in-laws and it's very intresting having American culture and food on display, Christmas day is my day.

Fund raisers, such as girls doing car washes. And bake sales. It costs almost as much to make the baked goods as you take in selling them, so why not just save yourself the time and trouble and donate the money directly?

Not an American, but I have heard that Americans believe and partially emulate this weird tradition, according to which, Germans would hide a pickle in the Christmas tree and someone would have to find it or something. Absolutely bizarre.
