Is the reason the GOP likes the electoral college is because they know they can't win without it?

From the 90s, the GOP candidate has only won the popular vote once. In 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and now in 2024, the GOP has lost the popular vote. It's clear that the U. S. population doesn't like GOP candidates as much as Democratic candidates.

Mostly true, and it has to do with the shortsightedness of the democrats not having a Palestinian American speak at their convention. Harris would have easily taken at least one more state if she had.
