Their rhetoric will move toward the center, just like it did when they got hurt for the same reason in the mid-90s. But just because their rhetoric changes, doesn't mean their actual views change.

I'm really surprised there has not been more of an uprising within the Democratic Party over the last dozen years or so. I'm surprised there have not been more traditional Democrats speaking out against the crazy direction the party has taken. A lot HAVE spoken against it, but they've been ignored for the most part. Maybe now their voice will carry more weight.

They're going to have real trouble getting out of the wokeness stuff and not running people that are minorities or substantially left-wing. That's kind of their brand. Also, they're going to keep running women all the time and that just apparently isn't going over to him. They would rather lose than change apparently.

The Democrats didn't just ruin their reputation in 5 minutes, they spent 24 hours a day across multiple media outlets every day over years ruining their reputation. The Democrat brand is dead.
