In the 90s when they realized the country didn't want all that far left stuff they moved toward the center, or at least pretended to. Since then they've moved so far left it's beyond the point of no return. What passes for modern left wasn't even on the left-right scale not long ago.

There is a moderate arm of the party but they aren't strong enough to have any real sway.
