The purposeful division of the political parties has created too wide of a gap to be bridged by well-intentioned attempts to find a middle ground between them. Trump supporters have been told that progress is their enemy, progress means change and change is evil. Nobody likes change, especially not political change which can be so frustrating to handle regardless of the problem it’s attempting to solve. Progressives see their hatred of change as a hatred of anything that doesn’t align with a specific image of themselves, that they’re exclusionist and delusional for trying to revive the past. America will not have another golden age as it did in the 1950’s as a post-war america was only able to thrive because all of our allies and competition were busy trying to rebuild their nations after the war. Because we took no damage, we were the only ones producing anything worth buying and we boomed while others were too busy recovering to do business. It’s possible for them to be civil, no one wants to start a fight they think they might lose or a fight that would cause problems. Changing someone’s mind, especially when it comes to identity politics, is incredibly difficult when you approach from the other side. There is no middle ground for you to stand on here. The best you can do is pretend politics doesn’t exist and move on.

Lots of people with opposite political opinions are friends, partners, family and get along. Normal people can get along with people who don’t have the same opinions as them. A group can’t, mainly extreme leftists. They now call for murdering their oppononets even if it’s your own husband, , divorcing/breaking up and cutting off family and friends for who they voted for. For these mentally ill extreme people it’s clearly impossible to get along with, or even coexist in the same space as, someone who don’t have the same opinions as them.
