Why are men just supposed to "take it" when their female partners abuse them? Why does society not defend them like they do women?

Well I think they probably would and I think they probably do if they do the right things in the very beginning when things like this start to happen but once a man starts yelling or if he starts hitting on her it's not going to make him look good at all he needs to walk away and do it the right way the truth always comes out no matter what so the man has to take the pain for a moment walk away and do it in the right manner because there are some mean ass girls out there I've seen some guys take a lot of crap and it's sad but it's their choice but once they get Violet or verbally abusive back to the woman it just makes them look bad. And then it makes it look like they are the bad guy


There was one time I was home sick and my sister came over with her 7 year old son and I don't know I don't remember what it was about but she started arguing with me about something and I just said I don't feel good just leave.

And she kept going on and on and on and I walked over and started doing my dishes and she started getting more and more pissed off and I said just leave just go

And she said something to the fact what are you going to do throw me out beat me up whatever it was it was just crazy talk but she took off her coat and she was pissed for whatever reason I don't remember but she started heading towards me like I said I was doing dishes and she was going to like chest bump me. But to the side of my body my sister's a really big girl but I waited until she got right up next to me and I stuck my elbow out and she rammed her chest into my elbow and she said you hit me you hit me I'm calling the police and I said great you still get you out of here so the police came

In the officer asked me if I did anything to her I said no I explained everything to him and she was out of control

He told me I should have called the police on her and I said well I've been to this before with hers wasn't a big deal he said yeah but she called the place so we have to haul you off we don't believe that you did anything to her but the law is the law I had my pajamas on he let me get dressed and I had to spend 12 hours in jail we had to go to court
The judge asked me what happened I told him it was just like in the police report and in the police report it said that the officers believe that I didn't do a thing and then the judge asked me if my sister was here. And I said yes and he told her to stand that and he said now you know you're under oath the police officers said that they don't believe that your brother did anything is that true and he said remember you're under oath and she said it is true he didn't do anything it happened just the same way that he said he did in his report
The judge told her that he could arrest her right now and then he asked me if I wanted to press charges on her and I looked at him and I said there's nothing more in this world that I would rather do but I said I can't do that she has a son that needs her she doesn't need to be teaching him these kind of things either and he said that if he was me he would press charges on her and let her go to jail spend 12 hours in there just like you had to and see what it's like and I shook my head yeah I know but I just I can't do that and is it okay case dismissed. And told my sister she ever did anything like this before she would be going to jail... So if the guy does stay calm in those situations I mean it's better for everybody it's better for him anyway

Reading some of the responses to this though is a bit disturbing. Even with such a subject it's like "But men this and men that" as if getting men is the end game with the smell of penis envy. Yeah we're physically stronger... but call the cops who gets arrested? File any lawsuit and who will do years while the other gets a warning and maybe probation?

I just watched a case of a 37-year-old teacher fucking a 13-year-old 3 times while making an 11-year-old do lookout. She's out. As usual, she was married. If a dude did that, the punishment does fit the crime... woman does it..."Oh but she's a woman, we can't punish her too hard," I'm just sick of that kind of double standard.

So this mental gymnastics of just thinking "Oh he's stronger and should just be smarter" sort of pisses me off. Who has the power when the cops show up? Who has the power in front of a judge? I watched too many cases of dudes getting a DNA test and proving the kids are not his, and then he's forced to pay child support... and goes to prison if he fails to pay. What about the real Dad, or the fact that she cheated and lied?

Broken ass system as far as I see. Born with a dick between your legs and everyone gets to treat you like shit... and then we wonder why so many of the ones that can't take it try and pretend to be a girl?

It's because some people think that since men are muscular & such, they can defend themselves at any time anywhere and therefore should be able to get out of it. But here's the thing: Being strong in muscles only gets you so far, but there are threats that you cannot physically defend yourself from. If a guy tried to do anything to his abuser (especially if they're a woman), they'd play victim, and he'd get blamed for it instead. Nobody would believe that he is the victim or even if they do, some might be harsh towards him going as far as emasculating him. When you tell someone who's male to just deal with it/help themselves on their own, it doesn't end well. I'd only be for International Men's Day if the main focus is solely about helping men speak up about the issues they face in society. Everyone already knows men helped build and contribute to society throughout history, but there's more important things to make awareness about and give congrats to.

He came forward in early 2000s and he said that he didn’t tell his parents what happened, that a key factor was that no one talked about it. We should talk about it and instill into adolescents that they will be believed & not only believed, to be given guidance and support further on of how to navigate this.

Agreed. This is also why Johnny Depp has been struggling with Amber Heard since 2016. He couldn't get any of the courts to believe him even though any honest person who looks at the evidence will see that Depp isn't lying about Heard's abusive behavior. It was going so badly for him that Heard became some sort of an icon for the metoo movement.

Because society still indoctrinates boys with the "value" that they should never hit a girl, no matter what, which enables and emboldens females to hide behind their gender and use violence against males with the confidence that there will be no repercussions. The only way that ends is if men reset expectations by using their physical advantage to shut such women down. With those being said, it is more likely for a guy to get falsely accused. You may believe in Innocent until proven guilty but that's what everyone else is saying just like saying lying is wrong but people still do it. It's not only France who believe in innocent until proven guilty but USA as well but they don't take their words. They are. I know two family members of men who are abused by their wives and sadly they take it…. Don’t want to do anything about it. Clearly this is a serious issue that requires education, services, and support as we do for female victims.
We need reassurance they’ll be believed, reassurance that they’ll be supported, and reassurance to the tools & appropriate action to take forward to get away from the abuse. Once we instill this in young, as they get older and possibly witness it firsthand as a victim they’ll know what to do.
