Why don’t the Russian people get mad at Putin for wasting hundreds of billion dollars that could’ve been used to help impoverished people there?

They feel the world has dealt them an unfair hand (true, but because of the oligarchs not a conspiracy against Russians).


They see Putin as the only one strong enough to stand up to the outside forces of NATO, the USA and occassionally conspiracies like the “elders of Zion”.


The war is viewed as a defensive war against an expansive nato. Which, if you look at the expansion eastward of nato since 1989 you see what they’re worried about. Prior to the 2014 invasion, Ukraine joining nato would cut Russia off from her only warm water port, a strategic death sentence.


While I don’t think Putin should have invaded Ukraine, I do understand why he felt motivated to do so to punish them for pivoting to the west. I also think Biden and the UK’s refusal to offer terms/barring Zelensky from doing so while the original counteroffensive was in full swing was a deliberate choice to throw Ukraine under the bus/martyr them to help compromise Russia. For that I think they should face consequences ( which they did by the Democratic Party getting curb stomped in this last election).

I would not call a curb stomp. He’s going to win the popular by about 1.5% and the congressional majority is pretty narrow. It could’ve very easily been much larger. It looks that way in the electoral college, but in terms of the raw vote it was fairly close.
