When was the first time you experienced racism? Or had to deal with it?

When I was in Taiwan. I didn't get called any slurs, but it was just the way I was treated. I could be in line for something first, but they would serve the Asian customers first. When we took a tour, the guide collected everyone's money in person, but told us to give it to our receptionist. I guess he didn't trust Whitey to pay up. Then on the way back he dropped the Asians off at their hotel, but kicked us out in the middle of the city and called a cab for us because he was "running late" and our hotel was "too far". We would get yelled at for things that Asians didn't get yelled at for. People wouldn't sit next to us or get into elevators with us. One old lady literally preffered to stand then sit next to us, but then sat next to an Asian. A def and dumb family was mocking us. One bitch on the train was sick and took her mask off and got me sick on purpose. Some guy thought we were gonna steal his umbrella.

People online excused it as "being cautious" and "distrustful". I wonder if they would say the same if I acted like that towards a black person.

It was blatant racism. It was obvious that they see non-Asians as inferior and therefore unworthy of equal treatment.

I was the racist repeating what older kids said not fully aware of what or why we were saying it.

Flash forward 20 years. Almost got arrested for being white because "white boys only come down here to score".

Flask forward 15 years. My minority class is telling me white teacher that "You couldn't have been on welfare as a kid, you're white!"

And so it goes...

At the DMV when I was getting my learner’s permit. I got up as soon as my number was called and the lady made eye contact then immediately skipped me. She ignored me when I came to her counter to try to talk to her. She then kept on skipping other POCs. Thankfully that was the only time I ever felt discriminated (I’m Asian).

HOWEVER, my mom told me about this one time we were on a road trip and went into a convenience store and a white woman started saying “look at all these n*goers in here.” My mom told me that she grabbed my hand and we walked out. I don’t remember this instance because I was a little girl. Other than that, never.
