1980s: The Yuppies (Young Urban Professionals) or The Decade of Excess

1990s: The Grunge Era or The Dot-Com Decade

2000s: The Noughties or The iPod Era

2010s: The Tweens (a play on the word "teens" and "tweens," referring to the decade's focus on social media and online culture) or The Streaming Decade

Note that some of these nicknames are more commonly used than others, and some may be more regional or cultural. Additionally, some decades have multiple nicknames that reflect different aspects of the culture or society during that time.

I turned 6 in 1960. Throughout that decade, I was introduced to the folk music revolution, the civil rights and anti-war movements, the hippie movement, mod fashions, the Beatles, and rock music.
I entered high school in the fall of 1969, the year of Woodstock, when I was 15. The 70s was my decade. By then I was pretty rebellious. I was a lead guitarist and surfer. I got a car when I was 16. I had long hair and dressed like a hippie/rock star. I played in popular garage bands and had girlfriends. I went to hundreds of rock concerts, backpacked and had lots of adventures.

I despised disco!

The 1970s was not "The Disco Era". Disco occurred during the latter 1970s, but it was not "The Disco Era". Does "That 70's Show" dwell on disco? No.
