I was unaware it was on decline. I go fairly frequently, seems like the same old New York to me. Never had a bad time there. Same goes for Los Angeles, great time, every time. I see crazy shit sometimes, but that’s par for the course in any enormous city. Millions of people, thousands of them will be nuts. That’s not because of the city or who the mayor is, that’s just what cities are and always have been. People try to trash them for political narrative creation, but the reality is they aren’t the hellholes they’re painted to be.

My city is a like a tenth of the size, but we have our share of crazy shit, just less but still the same rate relative to the population. If you’re scared of city shit, don’t go into cities, stay in your suburb or little country town.

If anything, the cities are so much more gentrified now, which is a shame in a lot of senses, but it’s super expensive condos now. I grew up nearby South Boston, aka “Southie” if you’ve seen any of the 90s/00s Boston crime movies. That place just isn’t the same anymore. It’s all young finance bros/chicks whose parents bought them a condo in a renovated triple-decker.

I saw a dude there this summer, likely a transplant for work, walking down L Street, right in the thick of Southie, with a New York Yankees cap on. And I all I could think was “in my day in the 90s, that kid wouldn’t wouldn’t have made it to the end of the block without getting a bottle broken over his head.”

We still have some tough neighborhoods, but I mean, what even is “a tough neighborhood.” I routinely get money from an ATM, unprotected on the street and not in a kiosk, in one of the neighborhoods suburbanites talk worst about, late night, and white as fuck, lmao, which some of those suburbanites would say makes me a target. It’s always fine. People walk by, no one robs me.

You just can’t believe the hype about this stuff. Most “violence” in cities is either gang-on-gang or two drunk idiots fighting outside of a bar in one of the entertainment districts. This idea that you take your life in your hands venturing into a city is so silly to me. I spent most of my childhood in the city. Mind your business and usually you can stay out of trouble.

They threw out God... which is erased from their schools.

The immigrated every culture on the planet and in the process... ruined the one that was there... which has left and gone elsewhere.

Lack of appraoches to deal with the emotional depravity that it generates.

School systems decline as teachers unable to instill heart and soul into the new kids.

Big business leaving... due to business costs...

Seems like an odd question to ask her. She doesn’t live in the state of ny
