Filming in public?

While it’s not illegal to do that if you’re standing on public land and no one has a right privacy if they are out in public. Cameras are everywhere. Now photography isn’t my thing but seen a lot of videos on YouTube about this.

So people are ok with cameras at businesses, light posts etc. but they act like it’s bad if it’s someone that’s holding a camera. Why’s that different? 🤔. I get it that following someone around is harassment. But if I’m standing in one place filming and someone gets upset, isn’t that a double standard?

In the United States, people should not expect a right to privacy when they are in public. That does not mean, however, that you can always legally film them in public.

If you are filming in public, and people appear in the field of view, but are not the subject of the filming, that is generally legal without their permission. However, if you specifically film one person or a group of people, their permission is generally required.

You're confused.

You cannot film people without consent, even in a public place, unless you have specific and legal purposes for it. Hence people aren't angry at the filming, but your reasons for filming without asking them if they are happy with it.

Are you serious? People get filmed all the time and post it on YouTube. Explain why many people don’t get arrested then? You can film anything as long as you stand on public land. Please.. cite a law that says you can’t film in public

Because it's usually some retard bothering people for some stupid reason. They are looking for an angry reaction so they upload it on youtube and say "see look at these people angry at me..." for views. But now I see those losers still recording people and now those people don't even react to it they just sit there chilling and until the guy gets bored and walks away.

You just mentioned the fraction of a fraction of usecases, which are by the way taken care of by bodycams (a smart invention, we also have them). But I don't need that ridiculously small niche to have pedos record our children or perverts record my tanning girlfriend under the ruse of "freee speeech".
And out of curiosity, why is it so normal in your country to put the cart before the horse? Every yokel with a GED can become a cop and then you are wondering why there are power-tripping cops abusing or shooting people? In my country the basic training alone for LEOs is three years. On top of that comes specialized training for your specific role.

Body cams are a joke here. They either don’t have them on to begin with or they erase any touchy footage. Can’t trust the body cams. Besides whose word a judge is gonna take between you and a cop? That’s why regular citizens record. U want privacy? Stay home and shut your blinds. Otherwise no one’s obligated to give you privacy out in the open buddy.

Then you obviously need better police oversight, including doing away with qualified immunity. And I have seen enough trials where a judge tore the police a new one if they could not bring the evidence or were caught lying. And again, your problem is the incompetent police training, not some camera issues. With all your cameras and recording, the cops kill 1000 people per year. In my country it's 5-10. Which is better?
The best thing is, I don't have to stay at home and shut my blinds as the law gives me my privacy.
