Do you think in the future countries will have to chose between being poor and giving too much control to companies?

It's already widespread that companies bascially run things there's just a government there to give people the illusion that they have some say too.

But in the future it could get even more extreme. In the past there were a lot of big breakthroughs that affected society and how people lived that were connected to government. But now most of the big breakthroughs are happening in the private sector and governments are struggling to keep up with the pace of modern development.

I saw a video that said Europes economy will shrink if they don't remove regulations and invest in tech incentivize companies to be there. This is not a bad thing in general but it becomes a fine line and a difficult balance to where companies just run things and governments are so afraid of losing business they'll do anything.

I wonder if in the future the whole world will just be run by big companies and everybody just has to find a way to fit in.

What do you think? Personally I've always enjoyed life in a country that has strict regulations I feel like I'm protected and like powerful people can't just use force to get what they want. But if the money disappears at some point it will become difficult. It's a concerning vision of the future.

I've no problem with regulations just as long as it can be demonstrated they have a protective function. These protections shouldn't be removed just so shareholders can make a profit.

The problem is once a company takes over then any wealth generated is siphoned out of that country. You can see that in the UK with the French now owning our biggest energy company EDF. Even our national lottery mostly goes to fund Canadians pensions. Historically Wales should have been one of the richest countries on earth but virtually the entire wealth of the coal industry was siphoned out into the pocket of one man and nothing invested into the country. Unsurprisingly he wasn't a fan of regulation either. I could envision Musk doing something similar with 3rd world countries.

This prediction is politically tainted, whoever is advocating for less regs is talking from a liberal standpoint. So called pragmatism is always associated to an ideology whatever it is

Right now I agree with you. But I'm a bit concerned if all the other countries like Germany France UK etc. start imploding it wouldn't be good for us either. Hopefully they'll figure it out.
