They do. There's a lot of respected women throughout history. Joan of Arc, the Virgin Mary, Mary Curie, Mother Teresa, that one lady who got lost flying across the ocean (cough) women drivers (cough)

Women are respected plenty for their accomplishments. If women want respect for possessing a vagina and a loud mouth, that's another thing entirely.

Because society is a patriarchy and women being equal to men threatens that power that men have held over them for centuries.
