Property Tax is Unconstitutional, isn't it. Read the 5th Amendment, oft misquoted. What do you think?

the Louisiana legislature and local governments in Louisiana are DEFINITELY violating this Federal Constitutional Amendment, because they levy property taxes under penalty of TAKING AWAY YOUR ENTIRE PROPERTY IF YOU FAIL TO MAKE PAYMENT EVEN ONE TIME.

This is a clear violation of BOTH the 4th, 5th, and 14th amendments of the USA Federal Constitution.

Property taxes is absurd. You buy a house, work for years paying it off and all of a sudden the local government decides its prime real estate and want you to pay an absurd amount of money because someone decided to build a big f*ck off mansion beside it. That's what happened to my grandparents, they bought a home decades ago in a small coastal village, worked hard all their life and built it into a lovely home anyone would be proud of. Then a bunch of wealthy people 10 years ago started building second homes, holiday homes and holiday apartment buildings and property taxes and home prices went through the roof. Now local people are being forced to move from their home town because they can't afford to buy/rent a house or forced to sell their homes because the high property taxes are astronomical. My grandparents got their home seized and sold under them because as a retired couple could afford the property prices. Now there's a holiday apartment building where their home was.

Same thing happens in big cities. As soon as the community improves their area they get forced out by high rents, house prices and property taxes.

The greed of bureaucrats and politicians for taxes is insatiable.

property tax is a local or state tax not subject to the the Federal constitution's lack of provision, per the 9th 1 and 10th amendment. Nor as the Federal politicians in black robes 'selectively' decided to impose such limited anyway via their revised catch all 'interpenetration' of commerce or the 14th amendment.

So property tax is as legal as your state constituiton allows it to be.

Yes, but the Income Tax does not have a penalty fo loss of property or fundamental rights. The state and local governments claim to have the power to taek your property in response to you failing to pay the property tax even one time. My mother is still paying property tax on land inherited from my grandmother, and the land has been in the family for around 65 YEARS and yet the family is still paying "property tax" on it. They've literally paid twice what the land was even worth in taxes over the years.

The Federal Constitution is not relevant given property taxes are imposed by local and State governments.

That said Article 1 Section 8 Clause 1 is not a broad taxing power and the 16th amendment is explicitly income specific. Property is not income. Therefore a Federal property tax would be unconstitutional particularly due to the 5th amendment.

But again that only applies to the Federal goverment who doesn't impose property taxes.
