Why do people feel entitled to know all your personal business and get offended if you don’t tell them it?

I don't like prying people who ask too many personal questions and feel entitled to answers. They are basically interrogating you. And if you don't comply, they accuse you of having something to hide.
That's the attitude of people who want access to your cell phone so that they can monitor you.

I'm entitled to tell those people to hose off.

Who cares? You don't need them in your life. If you must see them, when they ask questions you don't want to answer, just change the subject. "So, are you seeing anyone?" "Wow, it sure is hot/cold/wet/humid today." or "How about the Chiefs this year?" or anything at all.

@Friendlybro79 I agree it’s that for a lot of people. But something I have been told repeatedly is that social media is often a place where you don’t have to be yourself and a person can go there to do things they wouldn’t do in “irl”. And the people telling me that are doing exactly that. So you can’t always be sure if you’re interacting with the authentic person or not. I’d like to think I am getting pretty good at telling the difference, but I’m not always sure. What I do know is I have met two of the best friends of my life on social media this past year and I have spent enough time with them to be pretty certain they are the real deal.

That's great about your friends and I think that's a great example of how to say you can't say many things are in one broad stripe good or bad. Of course good can happen out of social media, but I do think that's the rare exception nowadays and it's a safe space to spread hate and disinformation to the masses by a big majority.

I think social media has normalized lack of privacy. We give away every second of our day and share everything with the world. It was quite normal 25 years ago for no one to expect you to share everything with everyone. That is one thing that was better then.
