Do you have disagreements with your parents as an adult?

My mom was over for a visit recently and she was criticizing me for getting after my teenage stepson for not completing some school assignments and some other stuff around the house. She said because I work away from home I shouldn’t be doing any discipline or taking care of any of the hard stuff. It was my duty “to provide fun” and nothing else.

I was actually quite upset by that comment, does she secretly think that I can’t take responsibility and parent my kids properly and it should be my partner who does everything? I wonder if it’s maybe a generational thing, my mom might be a product of second wave feminism or something? Aka all men are useless form of feminism.

How does society expect there to be a generation of men coming up if I can’t lead by example and guide them in the right direction. In fact am I not doing his future wife a huge favour?

I agree with you , in my opinion your mother is being stupid , my mother is dead long dead , and I had a plethora of disagreements with her as an adult , she was a manipulator in hindsight , and would deliberately create conflict , took me years to get her crap out of my head.

It’s difficult to find fault in your parents I guess. I think she means well, but I think she gives me flat out bad advice sometimes. I have a step son and two sons and I promised myself I would do everything I could to ensure they grow into respectable men. I told her that, and she said “that’s just silly they will figure it out on their own”

I mean come on, prison is full of men who had no fathers or shit fathers.
