The clear answer is D. I would bet good money that a Republican governor will be elected in California in 2026, or sooner if Newsome gets recalled, as he should.

There is a petition that already has 100,000 signatures calling for Mayor Karen Bass to resign. I suspect they will get more than enough signatures and she will be recalled for her gross negligence in planning for and managing the fires.

California is desperately in need of some common sense leadership, which they haven't had for years.

@BarryLiverstone I assumed it would be obvious what I was referring to, but I guess I should have known there would be some whose heads it would fly right over.

I of course was not referring to actually starting the fires, but rather the government being so woefully unprepared to deal with them effectively, on multiple levels. It's California... Santa Ana winds, and the fires they have fanned out of control countless times in the state's history, should come as no surprise to anyone. Anyone could have seen this coming, and the fact the government was so unprepared is unforgiveable. Heads will roll over this, and well they should.

I grew up in Los Angeles but left years ago, mainly because the state is so horribly managed. The government taxes the hell out of residents, and then prioritizes the wrong things above basic human safety. And it has over-regulated industry so badly that companies are leaving in droves, along with hundreds of thousands of residents, thereby undercutting the state's tax base even further so they have to overtax residents even more, resulting in things like cutting the LAFD budget by $17m when it should have done just the opposite.

I guarantee you the LAFD will get a boatload of additional funding in the next few years, hopefully at the expense of some of the frivolous bullshit the state spends so much of taxpayer dollars on. It's just sad that it too a tragedy like this to make it happen.

depending how far the fires go, might not need much fire services for a while. Take a while for all that plant life to re-grow.
Hopefully there is an analysis as to what went wrong. If Toyota was in charge, they'd figure out the root cause and fix it. Without leaders, who knows...

The California state goverment in recent decades has seriously undermined the states ability to identify and deal with fires in the California landscape. Hence their frequently getting out of control.

It was always their responsibility, and their local responsibility to put them out in the cities. If they needed help they are suppose to call for it.

Instead the state would rather spend its money on illegal aliens and drugs.

California has fires in the wilderness all the time, that has always been the nature of the California landscape.

The state goverment formerly had teams that would watch and contain theses fires before they got out of control. Theses efforts have been seriously undercut in the last 40 years leading to the regular fire problems in California since.
