Take WW1 Armistice. Right wing Generals Ludendorf and Hindenburg abstained leaving it to liberal Reichstag member Erzberger.

Imagine a US military signing defeat and no military present, instead forcing a liberal congressman to sign.

All these right wingers took the credit for Germany's victories. None for the defeats. And later claiming they were stabbed in the back by the liberals who had the guts to sign a defeat.

A story as old as time. Say what you want about right wing voters in general but their political leadership has always been particularly self-serving. Its all about what they can steal the credit for and who they can pass off blame to. It is tempting to just call it the behavior (and ideology) of a brat but quite frankly I dont think that truly does their evil justice.
