FYI- My father’s epileptic. His drivers license is revoked every time he has a seizure. Which is a good law. Gets it back after a month of good brain waves.

Here's the problem: states don't fund the costs to get mental health reports into the background check system, so they rarely happen, AND most doctors actively avoid reporting their patients, even when legally required to (such as, when they express their desire to harm others or themselves). This is EXPECIALLY true of activist doctors, who are the ones most likely dealing with trans folks.

California, where I am, not only has a federal requirement to report serious mental health issues to the NICS system (the federal background check system), but so does the state. Yet, the last time the state was audited in the early 2010s, compliance was less than 3%. No one wants to do the necessary work, and no one wants to pay for it, and they CERTAINLY don't want to report "protected classes" - and no class is more protected than trans people at the moment.

Now consider that California has a strong super-majority of Democrats - hell, nearly the entire state is controlled by Dems at every level - governor, state assembly, mayors, district attorneys, police chiefs, and on down. Democrats can do anything they want here, and until recently, California had massive tax surpluses, so they could pay for anything they wanted.

So, why, do you think, California hasn't managed to fix the mental health reporting to NICS for the last 30 years? Oh, and by the way, they're not much better with criminal reporting, at 41% compliance. How can this possibly be, when they have total power in the state? Surely, if they wanted to do it, they could easily do so. But they don't, and they haven't, not in the 30 years since the law went into effect. Isn't that strange?

It may seem so, until you understand this: mass shootings are DESIRABLE to the left, because it helps them push for more gun control on the people who are NOT criminals and do NOT have mental health problems. Unless there are these big media events, they can't get any traction for gun control at all, so it's in their best interests to allow them to occur. That way, they can demand new legislation that goes FAR beyond taking guns away from criminals and people with a mental health crisis - they push for restrictions on EVERYONE. That's the politics at work here.

California drafts new legislation every single time one of these events happen and they push it through the government and get it to the governor's desk right away - but they can't get criminal convictions or mental health issues reported into NICS, and haven't for 30+ years. How can you resolve that hypocrisy any other way?

Your question is poorly asked. Especially with the understanding of mental illness. I’m am mentality ill but with my guns I only shoot animals so I can eat. All animals have spirts, the spirt of the buck or the doe the spirt of the Engel of the wolf or the bear. We as humans are the top predators because we have bow and arrow or guns and powders I use my guns to hunt and defend even though I have PTSD anxiety depression ADHD and dyslexia the only crime I commit is taking a deer out of season. Or Turkey because I hut for meat should I be forced to the grocery store? I have mental illness when I get around children I talk to them about history and philosophy theology where is the point or no return? Are you going to deny me and meet my family because I have a mental illness all I want to do is shoot 4 deer a year so feed my family beyond what we have growing in the garden. Should me and my family be forced to live in the city? Or I be locked up for my depression anxiety PTSD and dyslexia. A lot more people will die unless you leave me alone then no problem

In theory this would make sense. However it would result in all the crazy people would never go see a shrink because it would disqualify them from owning a gun Besides that, who decides who is too crazy to own a gun. I was treated for depression once a few years ago. Does that disqualify me? It was bad enough I had to worry that a potential employer might find out my medical history through my insurance carrier. Now I need to worry about having my guns taken away from me because some liberal judge doesn't like the Trump sticker on my pickup truck.

I'd like to agree with you, but during the pandemic, you left wingers tried to push off supporting Trump as "mental illness" for the purpose of red flag laws and gun confiscation. Don't think we've forgotten so soon.

I do think that with the extremely high suicide rate with transgenders, that it should be something up for debate though. If you left wingers ever stop fighting for their right to enter a women's locker room with their cock and balls on full display, maybe we could make some actual progress on that issue.

You can still drive a car but you can't use the highways or other government paved roads. You can drive on your private roads all you want.

A gun does not need government roads so there's no such distinction. The Second Amendment is also pretty clear that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.
