@Sasahara it's not to investigate potential medical billing frauds. This is private medical data, it's much more than just medical bills (that the government probably already is aware of). They do this to discourage treatment, which increases suicide rate. Maybe not their goal, but it is a side-effect that transphobes gladly ignore.

It's more likely that they aim for things to stay the way they were. Holding on to what you are comfortable with (and see as good) despite it significantly hurting other people is quite common. 'Don't change what is normal' is the basis of conservatism. To immediately assume that they are evil and want to kill people is absurd.
However, plenty of people are well aware that their clinging to comfort and familiarity are detrimental for others. It's their selfishness, which again is not applicable for every conservative, that you should target. Not their supposed evilness.

beyond my knowledge of the law, but I thought courts have a higher power to get records. Probably exploring whom is having such surgeries and putting a stop to it. It's really about controlling/limiting this trans stuff. Laws are just made to confine people, laws change.

As an attorney, we have every right to subpoena hospital records, whether to help the defendant or state. It has to be narrow in scope and relevant to the case. One of the biggest misconceptions, is that hospital records are "off limits". In other words, I would need to know why you feel the HIPPA law was broken? A specific case, not just your incoherent rantings.
@Wallythewalrus I subpoena hospital records every month! There is a process and hearings at times BUT, if it is relevant to a specific case, the judge will rule in favor of whomever is seeking them.
And yes, it will become public record.

The purpose behind a lot of laws seem arbitrary. Like money laundering. We've all heard of it but probably half of us have a solid idea what it means (I'm not among them). Why is it against the law? Who is the "victim" if someone does it? Like I say, we've all heard of it so it must be a big deal, no one seems to have an concern for why it's a big deal because you have to be already rich to even be able to commit it.
In small bumping towns where everyone knows each other's secrets anyway, these people don't understand why sharing personal information might be a big deal. You have to have strangers actively prying into your life just to even be able to understand why it's a crime, and rural dwellers just don't have that.
Technically only the hospital broke HIPPA. I can get all the medical records I want. Nothing about that violates HIPPA, just like if I walk into a doctor's office and photograph all the paper they have laying around. The HIPPA violation is the "having it laying around" part not the "photographing ist that ain't my business" part.
Not defending (or even commenting on) what happened in TN, but a lot of people misunderstand HIPPA so I thought this would make the discussion more accurate.

Get a grip on reality. HIPAA does not protect your data from being used in a judicial proceeding. If the hospital was giving people fake melons, boobies, tits, milkers, chesticles, honkers, bazoombas, coconuts, fiery biscuits, cantaloupes, boom booms, or jugs, and then billing it as a "mental health" visit, then it's a violation of law.
States can do whatever they want the constitution was only suppose to apply to the federal government. Doctors do not have a right to mutilate their patients. That’s what gender affirming they’re the biggest euphemism in the world does to children and their mentally ill patients. If the federal government keeps this up, there will be another succession.
Then why did Massachusetts legally how do you say religion until 1838? The Federalist warned us about having a to powerful federal government they did want a civil war to break out. That’s a great way to have a Civil War and break up the country again. You gotta understand every state if different. Washington state doesn’t share the same values of Idaho. Hell eastern Washington don’t share the same values as western Washington pierce county does not share the same values as king county there a few as on why states have there rights and all the federal government can do is protect the country from foreign invaders, but they can’t even seem to do that.
I hate to break it to you but the State unlike the Federal goverment has the ONLY legitimate legal authority to make laws regarding healthcare. This is called the police power something the Federal Goverment never had for a good reason.
Healthcare is NOT in the Federal Constitution, therefore Federal laws like HIPAA are stickily speaking illegitimate, except to the extent the State agrees with them.

The Federal court was hand picked by federal politicians to think the Federal Constitution has almost no limits at all. If they were right we wouldn't have a Federal Constitution at all.
And we really don't as far as most of them are concerned as everyone on a regular basis is made aware as they push their ideology whatever it is in disregard of law.
Even still, States can and should ignore theses abusive actors. If the court wants to shut down all healthcare operations by banning those who comply let them be responsible for and utilize their 'vast' army to enforce that act.

They probably got around it by regulations that grant federal and state governments some jurisdiction over a patient’s medical records. They have a legal right to ask hospitals and physicians for medical information if required for criminal or civil investigations and cases, for example.
