I’m relieved but not thrilled. There is a difference.
I voted for Trump full well knowing he will occasionally say and do things that are embarrassing and stupid. Also I don’t worship him as a “demigod”. He’s a flawed human and he’s not immortal. He’s almost 80 and it’s possible something could happen to his health. But he’s still very sharp mentally (especially compared to Biden). While he has had a few gaffes here and there that’s just more normal for his age vs. early stage dementia which out last president was demonstrating particularly towards the end of his career.
Bottom line is I didn’t vote for a personality. I voted for policy. Trump had the USA in a much better place during his first term vs the horrendous job the Biden administration did. We had low inflation, relative world peace, a strong military, a controlled border, etc. Yes COVID wrecked us but absolutely no president not HRC, not Obama not Biden could have prevented that. That was out of our control.
Anyway I think a Harris administration would have just have been a continuation of the Biden administration but even worse. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t support a female president (I liked Nikki Haley). But we have tried DEI and it does NOT work.
Just a piece to advise for you people who hate Trump on there. If you want to change people’s minds about him try focusing on what his POLICY is doing to the USA vs. his personality. Because many people have grown tone deaf to your exaggerated and often deranged hatred of him. That’s why he won the popular vote.
But if you can argue hard facts about his policy and how it hurts the America and restrain yourself with the so called hyperbolic “dictator” accusations you might have more people actually listen to you. And quit assuming anybody who voted for Trump is some sort of MAGA redneck fanatic. Some of his voters are like that but most aren’t.
What specific policies of Trump do you like? Do you have any detailed versions to share? He has stepped away from being able to stop war with Ukraine and Russia in 24 hours to now 100 days, he campaigned he would lower food prices, and now is saying he might not be able to, he has for 9 years concepts of a plan, but not really anything detailed relating to a better version of Obamacare. I can't tell if he's serious about taking over countries that aren't for sale nor want to be part of America. I am not being sarcastic. He has said all of these things. Has he detailed any of his policies? I equate his promises as what kids do in jr high running for class president. I'll make tests easier!!! Doesn't say how just says whatever to get your vote. I'd love for anyone to share his actual official polices of the ones you say you like and or what your thoughts are with what he plans to do with social security.
It’s not really possible to be a good person and simultaneously support conservative social policy, is my issue. Like liberalism is mostly just an appeal for humans to be good people, and conservatives are just like “LOL, no.”
So it’s hard to perceive them as more than animals at this juncture. There’s just been a complete departure from decency and standards on the right, as I see it. Like human rights are in no way a matter of opinion. The thoughts conservatives have about people shouldn’t even cross a healthy mind. This isn’t just “oh, I want higher taxes and more business regulations” vs “I want lower taxes and fewer business regulations.” This is “I want to be a good human” vs “I want to be an egregiously shitty human.”
And I realize this sounds venomous and vitriolic, which I regret for the sake of politeness and keeping the discussion inside the rails, and I appreciate that you’re articulating your side politely and aren’t totally delusional about him.
But I’m just at a point where I can’t keep pulling the punch, because the message isn’t landing. We’re not talking about takes where the response like “oh, ok, well I disagree and don’t think that’s the best idea”, it’s like “have you no decency? Have you no soul?”, yet they want us to respond politely to it as if it’s some reasonable counterargument, which it simply ISN’T, in any sane, rational, and decent world.
Like if I was a “master debater” (lmao) with no knowledge of American politics, and you handed me the right wing’s social platform and told me to prepare to defend it, I’d think it was a prank. It’s THAT egregiously deplorable. Absolutely indefensible unless you abandon decency standards and good values.
And I would posit that, in a leadership role such as President, we should have the HIGHEST standards for character. Our children look up to that role and are told to aspire to it as if it’s the highest accomplishment possible. Why would I want my (hypothetical) son to look up to a man who talks about and behaves the way he does with women? I would disown my kid if they treated women like Trump. CHARACTER MATTERS. A LOT. If we abandon that, we abandon societal standards altogether. And the point of life isn’t making money or having a strong economy, that’s all fake life completely invented by humans. We don’t have to live that way. So I’m not going to abandon my own soul in pursuit of that endgame. That’s fucking gross, frankly, and the opposite of admirable.
His policy stinks too, (CLEARLY has no idea how tariffs or economy in general works, which is WILD, given that he’s a career businessman) but the man he is is UNIQUELY and PROFOUNDLY disqualifying, I don’t care if he has the cure for cancer.
Dictator isn't the right word. After all, he's bringing in his billionaires buddies as well. Sorry we mixed up oligarchy under Trump and dictatorship.

At least you had the decency to question me calmly and about a subject matter of actual relevance (policy).
I agree it's difficult to write it all out. I wouldn't expect you to for the reasons you state. Feel free to send links that support your beliefs in the policies you like. Feel free to also comment on any of the concerns I shared. For many of us non Trump supporters we just don't understand what people see in him and it's becoming difficult for many to engage in conversation. Many times I find myself having a conversation with a trump supporter that quotes things that aren't true and deny reality to the point where you just can't talk anymore.
I think that's bad because we need to hear each other. I can say it's better to hear how someone feels than for them to not tell you at all. When someone calls me a socialist or a communist for being liberal, I constantly re read my text to double check if I wrote something wrong because I'm not either of those.
I find it difficult to engage in these conversations For ex.
Many of his supporters don't seem to acknowledge or believe he was recently sentenced and convicted on all 34 felony counts of business fraud in the hush money trial. They also don't accept or acknowledge he was found liable of sexual abuse and defamation id E. jean Carrol. They also don't understand that means to many people rape. Legally NY has a term of rape being unwanted penis to vagina penetration whereas sexual abuse in his case was he used his fingers and unwilling inserted them into her. I'm sorry to be graphic but I have a mom and a sister. That's rape in my book and I can't vote for that. Somehow folks like yourself did and think that's better than Kamala. I just don't get it and I promise I'm not being sarcastic.

We can talk policy if you like, but my point is that absolutely none of it matters if we abandon good values just to achieve positive economic results. Again, “positive economic results” CANNOT be the guiding light for any morally decent nation.
Happy to chime in with my policy critiques as well, but they WILL be primarily predicated on “can we accomplish this without abandoning moral decency, and without setting a horrible example for our own children as to what is acceptable in a leader and just in a human being in general?”
Like I don’t think all of Trump’s supporters endorse everything he’s about directly, like you…. but you have to understand that accepting him and voting for it IS tacit agreement with and acceptance of what he’s done.
Like I have plenty of negative opinions of JD Vance and what he stands for, but I’m not coming after him the same way, because to my knowledge, he’s not been accused of sexual assault or anything egregious like that. I’d still be worried about the direction of the country, but if he were President, it wouldn’t be such a “the sky is falling” situation to me. Like you could slide him through and I’d be like “well, I think he’s a slick-talking fraud with crazy holy roller belief systems, but at least he’s not a sexual assaulter.” And honestly, I just can’t believe we’re even at a place in the timeline where we’re sitting here trying to weigh if sexual misconduct is a deal-breaker or not.
Like that’s the key word: your should-be deal-breakers AREN’T, and that speaks volumes about someone’s personal character, that we think someone morally reprehensible will lead us to more money in our pockets, so it’s all good🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
If you don’t want to continue, we don’t have to, @Friendlybro79 is carrying the torch just fine and saying much of the same that I would, I’m just at a much higher level of exasperation at this point.
But the majority of my policy objections are “but none of these problems you’re fixing to address are problems in the first place, or aren’t a problem for the reason you seem to think they are, or you’re approaching an actual problem like an absolute fucking lunatic and think we’re in an action movie where you come in and just drop your nuts on the table and talk tough to some villain, and that’ll save the day.” THIS IS REAL FUCKING LIFE, this is not how geopolitics and international diplomacy are supposed to be handled. It’s not “cool”, it’s not “funny”, it’s not “tough”…. it’s absolutely fucking ridiculous clown behavior unbecoming of any world leader.
And my last thing is just that this is all incredibly difficult to even discuss anymore, because Trump has ushered in this crazy belief system of not believing the news. That’s probably the worst thing he’s done, just created this societal culture where if we don’t like what we’re hearing, then it’s all lies with nefarious intentions, and you find the person saying what you want to hear instead, and take THEIR word for it, reality be damned. Like we no longer have a shared basis in fact. MAGA has pushed us into a post-facts world that I’m not even sure how we navigate. That’s for sure the most dangerous thing to come out of all of this, this broad idea of “fake news”, and dismissing anything unfavorable as such. Just head-in-the-sand behavior that’s bad for all of us, and we don’t hold people accountable when we should.

So I will say this. You represent a shrinking minority of Americans. Yes once upon a time it was trendy and cool to have TDS in many parts of the country. It may still feel that way given you likely reside in a echo chamber with friends/colleagues who think the same way you do.
But Trump winning the popular vote back in nov 2024 is signally a cultural shift (and those election numbers are cold hard facts). Moderates and independents (and minorities) shifted over to the GOP. And you railing about “racist and evil America“ isn’t going to win over more democrat supporters. In fact it’s more likely to do the opposite (so please keep it up 🙂)
The DNC had their moment and they failed miserably. Reason being is they absolutely suck about policy issues most people care about (the economy, border, foreign policy, etc). Now people are waking up to that fact about and they’ve HAD it with the democrats.
But I don’t expect you to ever change. You truly believe “you are bullying the bullies”, right? You just read about me voting for Trump and you didn’t put in one iota of mental effort into understanding my position.
Instead you immediately concluded “MAGA!” and “Trump Supporter!” That might of worked in 2020 but that’s not going to work today. The November 2024 election should of been the lesson you needed but I guess once you have TDS there is no cure.

Explain to me why we should be screaming “DEI hire!” every time anyone who isn’t a white man gets a good job.
Explain to me why we should allow states to decide if it’s ok for women to make healthcare decisions about their own bodies.
Explain to me why it’s ok for a baker to refuse to make a cake for a gay wedding or propose that a state should decide if gay folks can get married?
Explain to me why it’s ok to bully trans people, who there are barely any of in the first place, and try to make life as uncomfortable as possible for them?
Explain to me why it’s ok to create environments for LGBTQ people to have to feel like they need to conceal themselves, or suggest that they’re a negative influence on kids, and that growing up to be LGBTQ people is somehow a worse outcome than being straight.
Explain to me why we should should be disdainful of cultures that don’t align with what White America subscribes to.
Those are just a small sampling of my objections, but…explain ALL of that to me. But there’s one stipulation: your answer will not be acceptable if it smacks in any way of racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, any general bigotry or chauvinism of any sort, doesn’t impose Christianity and/or American nationalism on us and our children, and doesn’t prioritize economic concerns over human rights. Those are my only asks. It’s a good time to remind you, just in case you were absent that day of kindergarten, that all of those aforementioned things (excluding Christianity, in and of itself) are objectively deplorable mindsets that no healthy human brain should be having.

No, I am very, very concerned for my country, and even more concerned about what the fuck is wrong with our people that we would even accept him has a candidate, let alone elect him. We are not a country of good people with good values, morals, and priorities, apparently.
I am EXCEEDINGLY ashamed to have to call myself an American because of this, just so impossibly embarrassed that we care so much about money and so little about compassion and human decency. Americans are absolute fucking ANIMALS.

I have my reservations about Trump. I don't see him as "the great savior". I'll just see what policies he adopts during his administration and whether or not they are generally beneficial to Americans. I don't expect the doom and gloom that Democrats predict.
I don't think his first administration was bad. It was certainly no worse than Dubya, Obama or Biden. And I can't think of anyone else, currently, who I think would be better even though I disagree with some of his policies.
I am extremely relieved that Harris lost.
I think Trump will be much better than the last four years of fuckery by Biden and the Democrats. That party has gone completely off the rails.
Trump has already turned away from all his promises, and has infested the government with billionaires.
You also don't even understand the issues at hand when blaming Biden, because when using metrics compares to other countries, inflation wasn't just in the US, it was global, and as a result of billionaires raising prices to the brink.

For me, the word "thrilled" is a bit much. The words "relief", "satisfaction", and "optimism" are better fits. As a side note, I will add that the 250th anniversary of the United States on Saturday, 7/4/2026 with Trump as President should be epic. If Harris had been President for our upcoming 250th anniversary in 18 months, she probably would've cackled and apologized to the world for the United States even existing, with a sparkler in one hand and a bottle of wine in her other hand.

The answer is at least 77.3 million because he won not only the electoral college vote by a landslide but the popular vote as well. He won by one of the biggest vote totals in US history.
