He didn't cheat on his taxes. His campaign advisers advised him that he should pay Stormy Daniels $130,000 hush money during the 2016 elections for an affair he had a few years ago because he was told an affair would destroy has campaign.

It's not Illegal to pay someone hush money. A person can do whatever they want with their money. What he did however, when he claimed the amount on his taxes, he claimed it as an expense, which is considered Tax fraud. Usually the crime is a misdemeanor, but do to the large amount, he was charge with a felony.
