It's a thing but elon is putting the cart before the horse.

While usa has decent "age pyramid." South Korea, Japan, China are in early stages of basically the age pyramid flipping. Basically way more old people who are dying soon then people who are being born on a daily basis.

There's a magic number of every adult needs on average 3.2 kids to just to replace humanity. So some adults choose not to have kids and some choose to have 20. So long as the average is 3.2 you got enough to keep the economic demands in check.

With housing and economic pressures it's getting dangerous close for majority of the first world to maintain that 3.2 birth average and immigration is helping but that's in danger inof itself. So we need a long term solution.

I'll say this much the richest person isn't solving that problem. Lot of work reform down right socialism. A village is needed to raise a child and the parents have to be their for the village too. It's not like corporation isn't going to be their for you.

Dunno In the future when Africa and India are highly developed their birthrates will fall. But if society collapses people will start having more kids again because they'll need to rely on family again. I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we will go extinct because of gender wars but we could definitely decrease the population on earth by a lot.

World birth rate has been declining for decades. In 1950, it averaged 5 per woman. In 2021 it was 2.2 or 2.5, I forget which; and The United Nations predicts that the global fertility rate will continue to decline, reaching 1.8 births per woman by 2100. This is well below the replacement level of 2.1 births per woman. So, even if we don’t go extinct, there’ll be a significant drop in world population in the not too distant future. Should be good for the planet, at least.
