Do you keep emergency rations?

Due to the events going on in the world, the Danish government recommended the population to stock up on rations to survive 3 days in case of any emergencies last year.

I must admit that I've not done much of it but I am now, considering there is threats of military usage and talk about "expanding" certain territories. 😅 Maybe I should just migrate back home, despite of economic struggles and shitstorm there at least we be invisible in Iceland. 🤣

My man and me prep so we keep a lot of preserved foods in the basement and shelter.

He's a big prepper, a lot of Americans are. It's all very new to me learning about the different food preservation techniques. We've at least 4 months food that's canned, dried, smoked, frozen, pickling, salting. We grow our own vegetables and rear chickens and ducks for eggs. We keep fish as well to eat. We had a plan to start an aquaponics garden you know with fish but haven't gotten around to it. He had the idea of raising rabbits and squirls for meat but I don't want to be ringing the necks of cute little animals for basically no meat. He's an avid Hunter and fisherman so there's always plenty of meat and my mother in law is teaching me about gathering you know like wild fruits, berries, nuts, mushrooms etc. All in all it saves us a ton of money, like a lot and we need it because we just had a baby but it helps we own our home. My sister and her husband both work reasonably well paid jobs yet they never seem to have any money and they've no kids.

Yes being an American and ex Marine he does stockpile guns. He only has about 10 guns in think, which is a quaint little gun collection in America. He also has gas masks and chemical warfare suits, flares, flare gun, a cannoe, snow shoes etc. And we keep bug out bags, bug out bags are bags that are ready to go at anytime in case you need to flee to safety. It has to carry everything you might need but also be light enough to travel very far and fast on foot.

As a non American its very worrying having experienced already hurricanes, tornados and blizzards. Then you look at what's happening in california.

@DrPepper12 covid was pretty insane. Wildfires are insane. Hurricane Katrina was insane. The LA riots were insane. The snow storms the us gets are absolutely insane as a non American. In the summer sitting on the porch watching rain and the thunderstorm that's seems to come every evening is insane. Earthquakes. Home invasions. Flint michigan water. The crime. Protests blocking roads. The terrorist attacks. Mass shootings. All insane.
Every year in America maybe because it's such a big country there seems to be at one or two major crisis.
The prepping seems to really save us money.

Where I am, power goes out sometimes for hours up to a couple weeks. Low priority so you learn fast to be self sufficient and keep extra shit.

I'm glad I'm living where I am. 😂 remember being snowed in tho, couple of hazards with earth quakes and one panic surrounding volcanos but haven't had that issue for years now.

I got like two months worth of noodles alone since I buy those in bulk. Add about a months worth of food in the freezer and I am set for a while as long as there is water available. It is the one category which I have not found a good source for in bulk so far. Also, for the record, my pets also has a few months of food in the stockpile for similar bulk buying reasons.

Yes, they think 3 days is sufficient to get shit handled. Not everyone is privileged and can stock up on essential for weeks at a time, some people are struggling to just get by, I know I'm a privileged little bastardo but that is something I understand.

I don't think it costs a lot of money either but now I'm so fortunate to have money. I grew up in a household where we could barely afford to eat for the week, let alone keep things in stock and I'm aware that unfortunately there are people in this same situation now.

The people in East Palestine , Ohio still cannot drink the water. In North Carolina and Tennessee there was a hurricane and FEMA has not done anything. President Trump is going there next week to see what needs to get done. I have a generator and a new freezer stocked with meat and other foods. I was looking for a way to store a couple of hundred gallons of gasoline on my property,

@potteplante I have a summer house on an island. Thr grocery store charges a lot for paper goods so I always stock up and bring them over on the ferry. In 2020 i had a big supply of toilet paper that i was planning on bringing up there in the spring. It sure came in handy when we had shortages. I probably could have sold some on EBay.

Glad I've yet to experience shortage on TP, no one here went that nuts in 2020. Tho restrictions had to be made and still are practised with goods on sale to avoid people bulk buying leaving others with nothing.

@potteplante The thing that really made me sit up and tale notice is how fast th medical infrastructure got overloaded during covid.
I had diverticulitis which is a painful condition of an inflamed area in my intestine. It happens every couple of years and a course of anti biotics will take care of it. I got it again and I called my doctors office. He works out of s bih health center and sometimes if I cannot see him I cn see another doctor. That were not seeing anymore patients that day and they sent me to an urgent care place. I get there and the line id out the door. Everyone had covid or thought they had covid. I had to sit there for 3 hours before seeing a nurse practitioner. I thought for sure I contracted covid while I was sitting there. The nurse practiononer wanted me to go to the hospital emergency room and get an MRI. I asked her id she looked at my chart and saw that a prescription would clear this up in a day She said that she did not have time for that.
Sitting in the Emergency room for 12 hours did not sound like something I wanted to do expecially since I was in pain. So I went home and went to bed and went in and saw my own doctor the next day. I got the prescription and I was fixed up the next day.
I always tell people that if Mad Max needed to see a doctor it would be like that.

@exitseven I had to go to the hospital with both my mother and a kid from work, they were backed up as shit but both got decent care. Still feeling the backlash in our medical infrastructure here - doesn't help nurses being overworked and understaffed. Just spend 12 hours at the hospital with my mother the other day at urgent care, waiting for a doctor, she got admitted for the night and the next day a doctor (who knows her) comes in and kinda curses that people didn't look at her journals properly and kept her sitting for so long (fasting and without pain meds she is defended on)

Me on the other hand - I'm having a blast with the medical practice atm, I'm getting all done I need.

Lol, what is not. I'm terrible at listening to my body. I've my hand, wrist is done and healed almost, migraine coming back, chest pain and I've experienced a couple of seizures every couple of months for the last 3 years or so. 😅
