During the campaign, it was “On day one”, or “within 24 hours of taking office”, and in some cases, “as soon as I’m elected.”

And I’ve had conversations ON HERE back when I’d point out the strength of the current economy last year when Biden was in office, and the story was “it’s all because of Trump, they know he’s coming back.”

We’re a week in, and those eggs you were all screaming about are up (remember you blamed all the stuff Covid caused worldwide on Biden, the same rules apply to Trump…. all world events and their collateral impacts are the incumbent president’s responsibility, he’s to blame for all direct and indirect actions, plus random life happenings, so no excuses of “it’s out his control!”…. that’s you guys’ established standards, not mine), and I’m back paying over $3 a gallon for gas?

I’m not trying to be a noodge here, but he himself set the deadlines, and yet there’s no delivery, just a circus act of deportations trying to show up blue cities and bombastic language of expanding U. S. territories with new land, by uncertain means from unwilling owners, and then he set a bunch of traitors to the United States Of America free. Is this helping? This isn’t me having unrealistic timetables, it’s Trump promising them. I know he can’t just fix prices, but it’s you folks he fooled that I’m wondering about.

Anyway, I’m not here for debates about WHAT he’s going to do or not do, I just want hard time limits. We’re not moving the goalposts over and over like last time.

How long do you give him before you start regretting your vote, or at least admitting he lied about what he would be able to do, FINALLY ANSWER? And I remind you that EVERYTHING was promised to change IMMEDIATELY…

Well…. thank you all for the overwhelming response! Definitely the most activity I think I’ve ever had on a question.

I think a lot of you are missing the point, though.

This isn’t about egg prices. I understand the bird flu thing. This is about how, for the last four years, in a time of all kinds of crazy circumstances, the rule has been “anything bad that happens is the President’s fault.” I’m applying that standard.

Eggs have gone up because millions of chickens were roasted in a set fire by a rival. This has happened before, where a rival egg producer has vandalized their competitor. Plus the avian flu is affecting egg production. You know how it is, supply and demand and whatever the market will bear. None of this is Trump's fault. The guy has been in office for only 8 days. Give him a chance. He is dealing with Russia, Gaza, Iran, Ukraine, and fires in California and hurricane damage in NC. He can only do so much at once. He doesn't even have all his Cabinet in. But he is still doing more than Bite-on did in 4 years. He is deporting illegals instead of inviting everyone in like Bite-on did. Let's see how he does his first year before burning him at the stake.

Once again, you don’t have the correct information.

The Keystone XL pipeline transports something called tar sands oil. Tar sands oil is not primarily used for making into gasoline, it’s mostly for making plastics.

Biden tapped into our oil reserves when prices were at their highest, to alleviate some of the cost at the pump, and then purchased oil when it dipped in price, and replenished the reserve supply for a handsome profit. But everyone still put “I did that” stickers on all the gas pumps, smdh🤦‍♂️ But just if you’re into making money on oil. Biden also drilled more oil than Trump ever has to date. I’m sure it’ll be surpassed now, but the point is there was never an American shortage. We got gouged by the oil companies. Everyone mad at the president, and not at the CEOs, I’ll just never understand.

What exactly do you mean “fiasco?” The only thing I can think off of the top is that he’s trying to get us to switch to electric by 2035, which, in 2021, was almost a decade and a half in the future. Plenty of time to prepare and adjust. And that’s only what can be manufactured. You can still drive a gas powered car after 2035, that was never part of the plan.

Answer me this: if America was a buyer oil and not a seller, would you be this committed to fossil fuels? And why? Please respond to that if you respond to nothing else I wrote, I’m curious.

Because electric cars are bullshit. If everyone in the US had an electric car our power grid could not handle it and we would have rolling blackouts. The price of electricity would go crazy. Only reason Biden wanted it is because he owned stock in a Lithium mine. But electric cars will not clean up the environment. They will need new coal fired electric plants to meet the electricity need. And of course the 10 million illegals Biden invited in cost the taxpayers $billions each year.

I’ll save the whole immigration debate since it’s not super-relevant here.

The pipeline, if you mean Keystone, is a tar sands oil pipeline, and tar sands oil is not main type of oil for fuel, it’s for plastics. So opening that or closing it has no effect on gas prices, since it doesn’t get refined into gas. And any supply-and-demand issues were not US-related. We drilled more in Biden’s final year than Trump did in any of his four, so it’s an abject fallacy that Biden caused a shortage. The shortage is from Putin attacking Ukraine, and most of the Western world aiming to do the right thing by not supporting Russia by buying their oil, as they’re also a major producer.

But here’s the thing, man…. I forget the exact date in the timeline, but at some point when we were paying like $4/gallon. I did a deep dive on gas prices in England at the same time, converted dollars to pounds and gallons to liters…. they were paying like $8 for gas. And we’re over here putting “I did that” Biden stickers on gas pumps by the price sign like fucking toddlers, when we’re paying half the cost of everything else. It sucked, but we were still in the best spot, and no one wants to give any credit.

I’d just ask what I asked someone else. We have renewable energy sources in the works, but the oil companies pay politicians to disparage them, for obvious reasons. For sure there are pros and cons, and some stuff that’s not good for apples-to-apples comparison.

But here’s my main question, to those of us so geeked up to be energy (oil)-dominant….. if we here in America were buyers and not sellers of the oil, and stood to pay money and not be paid it…. would you still be this dead-set on oil as a means of fuel? Or is it strictly profiteering, environment be damned?

Trump has a plan to increase energy production to bring gas prices down. When gas prices go down soon the prices of everything else goes down. This is what Joe Biden did only in reverse. Once we see the per barrel cost of crude oil start to go down we sill start to see prices go down and definitely see inflation lessen. It will take a few months to start to see results. There’s so much more to the equation than fuel prices though. It’s not just contingent on gas. They jacked the prices up on food when we were driving the least, due to supply and demand law it was going for like $2.00 per gallon. Then we reopened and gas got expensive (also due to corporate price gouging, fuck whatever excuses they give or “futures trading”…. there was never a real supply shortage. That wasn’t the issue.), and then the companies kept the jacked up prices PLUS shrank the unit sizes in a lot of cases, and never went back, now that our supply chains are largely recovered, and they’re laughing all the way to the bank. Oil companies, grocery suppliers, all of ‘em. And WE’RE the butt of the joke. These people are NOT your friends, they won’t even do you favors by accident, so I wouldn’t recommend doing them any favors on your end.

@Shiprex I wanted to electric car to succeed. It has amazing low end torque and is quiet and the motor has one moving part. It does not have the range and the charging time is much too long. The technology is not ready for prime time.
When it is ready I will buy one. .

There are EVs now with 500km range although most people drive less than 30km in a journey. If the infrastructure for charging was available then there's no excuse to avoid it. Like you say quieter, less noise pollution, vibration (think residential areas and damage to structures). IF you want long range travel there are trains and busses where they too can be used and who wants to sit in a metal box for 5 hours at a time daily? Maybe pilots, taxi drivers (most taxis here are EV or hybrid because the infrastructure has been put in place. The only taxi I took says the range he got from a full charge went from 350km down to 180km because of the cold weather but that's a TAXI so for the average motorist who does that range in a week and can charge over night or during the day at work the EV just needs the same impetus the oil industry put in 120 years ago when electric cars were as numerous as ICE but they flooded the market with fuel stations while electric firms missed an opportunity. Are we seeing a VHS and Betamax or Apple or Microsoft challenge with personal vehicles? Who knows. The draw back of charging should really only be for long haul travel that ought to be by train or could the concept applied here of electrified roads be put in?

@Shiprex I looked at the Ford Lightning. The literature said 315 miles. The sales guy would not say. That is a big red flag. Also the milage goes down greatly if you are hauling a load or tow a trailer. Also the cold has an effect on it as well.
After 3 years the batteries have to be replaced. They cost a lot, over ten thousand dollars. Then you have to spend a lot to have them recycled properly or else find some quiet spot and dump it. It is an impressive truck but it is not ready for prime time.

Three years isn't what the taxi drivers here are doing and they put on 100s of thousands of miles. The batteries do perform poorly in the cold but the cost to run them is still better cost per mile than any internal combustion motor. Any vehicle carrying or towing loads will drop in range but most people who use private transport aren't doing that day in day out. Also anything needing to be moved long distance ought to have trains in the first place to make the transport more efficient and cleaner.

@Shiprex I am the one in charge of the charging stations where I work. Anyone who wants to use it has to go through me. As a result I have talked to about a dozen EV owners. Most say that if they could not use the company's charging stations they would not be saving any money.

Most people have home electric charging stations here and the commercial ones are, just that, commercial and thus profiting the firms providing the service. Household charging is far cheaper than commercial charging and they know that so end up charging similar price as to match ICE vehicles.

@sage2021 Sage, what it comes down to is that, in my opinion, Trump is a salesman, and he changes his pitch based on who’s in front of him in that moment. If he’s not selling empty promises, he’s selling CONFLICTING promises that can’t BOTH be delivered on.

Example: he’s promising “America First” policies but two of his most hyped advisors (Elon and Vivek…they already pushed Vivek out, haha) at the exact same time are like “we need to bring in foreign workers to do all this big-brain stuff that Americans are too stupid and lazy to do.” Do you see how that conflicts, and someone he made promises to, whether that be struggling middle class people or tech billionaires, will have been lied to?

In this specific case, he made HUGE promises to bring prices down. I may be a nobody, but I’m a nobody who is college educated in Economics, so I understand how this stuff works. And his plan to do it via tariffs, in the manner he seems to be looking to do it, will cause our prices to go UP. Whether that puts heat on China, or US companies just switch it up and start importing goods from India, or Malaysia, or Vietnam (NOT America, still too expensive), ORRRRR, best case scenario, we make America a manufacturing country again (but remember most Americans don’t want to work manufacturing jobs), the whole reason the foreign goods are cheap is because they have terrible worker’s rights, and we’re basically getting things from sweatshops.

America will not be running sweatshops, they’ll have to pay normal minimum wage, unless our society goes FAR south and we’re all dirt poor and desperate for whatever we can get (like those workers who currently make our imported goods), resulting in MUCH higher prices than we’re used to paying.

More of a social experiment for me, nothing to be offended about.

@sage2021 Now, we could use tariffs in a totally different way than Trump is using them, and rekindle manufacturing of specific products domestically, but here’s the thing: first off, that will take billions of dollars and probably a decade of time to get to, there’s no immediate relief for the consumer in that, we’ll be in the mid-30s by then; also, countries we levy tariffs on will retaliate with tariffs on our goods, costing us export sales.

The bottom line is: nothing about tariffs will do the consumer any good, certainly not any time soon. We currently have a questionably-ethical system of buying cheap goods made through veritable slave labor, but it’s out of sight, out of mind to us, and the result is we pay less at the register. That’s for our own souls to bear. But that’s what we do right now.

We’re talking about YOUR money vs America’s money. Tariffs will hurt YOUR money, and probably just have a negligible impact on America’s money, but the idea is to create a second-hand negative impact on the other country, just by way of fewer exports sold because the American business owners had to pay more to import the goods and would likely purchase less. (The U. S. business pays the tariff, not the exporting country…and the U. S. business makes the consumer pay more to offset it.) END RESULT: the customer (you and I) pays more, U. S. businesses break even, the U. S. government makes money, the foreign country loses exports. But the biggest loser in the whole situation is the customer, that’s the main thing to take away from this.

The reason I’m asking the question, full disclosure, is that I notice MAGA voters flip-flop a lot on promises Trump has made. They come in saying one thing, then it doesn’t happen, and then there’s a whole narrative about why it can’t happen that way but it’s someone else’s fault, and the whole MAGA crowd just changes with the breeze whenever Trump tells them to. This is about the game he talks vs what he delivers, and I’m curious where the lines are for his supporters before they would jump ship or at least start seriously questioning him. “Grocery prices” were pretty much a Top 1 issue, supposedly, unless it was the more “cruel to human beings” type stuff and grocery prices were just the innocent excuse, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt. But grocery prices were a huge thing I heard from the voters, Trump said “immediately fixed if elected”, I have enough background in collegiate economics to know he can’t just walk in and do that in reality, especially if he does his tariff thing, so I’m predicting that’s a bus we’ll be waiting for for quite some time. If that’s the case, I’m wondering how everyone who said grocery prices under the Biden administration would leave them begging in the streets if it went on any longer, will feel about delaying those expectations a considerable time, if ever, since everyone was supposedly on the edge of going belly-up financially.
