Understanding this requires zooming out of the bickering partisan bubble for a few minutes. When the US via Ukraine went for Russia's throat and failed, just like in the movies.. there are consequences. The massive investment the US made in Ukraine, the coup in 2014, the billions in weapons, the 12 CIA bases, the bioweapons labs, all of it an attempt to overthrow Russia. Now that it has failed, the plan is essentially Fortress America. Regardless of who was elected it'd be the same, mainly because there aren't many other options. Regroup and consolidate power. Notice immediate pivot to take the Panama Canal, take Greenland, and I think US is going to squeeze Canada HARD economically, with the aim of forcing Canada completely into the American economic sphere. The US in its vulnerability intends to pull everything in North America & the region under its control. I'm predicting Greenland and the panama canal will be taken in short order, Greenland has enormous potential resources as well as strategic location. By the way a great resource on this is Scott Horton's new book Provoked. It lays out every minute detail of the way the US engineered the war in Ukraine, nearly a thousand pages but a terrific read!

As it is, he was honest about a lot of things, like why Europe doesn't buy our food products. I'm as hopeful as ever that we might cleanup our garbage food supply, get new agreements in Europe to buy products, have better exchange and possibly... maybe... improve our finances over time. Maybe... it's a long shot lets be honest...

It might be scary and it could go bad. The French could pull their wine! Not everyone likes a strongman strongarming them. But you know what, when someone gets you into a headlock that is 200lb heavier and more skilled, at some point... ya start to listen and make a deal and generally speaking, it works out ok!

He is dong it so we don't have to pay income taxes. That may be a long shot though. Especially if it raises all the prices instead of lowering them. I think he might be listening to Elon too much. I'm just guessing here, but next time we have some fires I doubt Canada will offer assistance with their scooper planes again. And since he is doing the same with Mexico, they won't send anyone either. We'll have to see what shakes out.

Why would they be? Success always requires sacrifice, and the one on the part of the US' citizens will be actually minimal. With the US boasting the world's highest GDP and controlling all the maritime trade routes, it will not be long before all the affected countries except maybe China bend to President Donald Trump's will, upon which the tariffs will be lifted, since they will no longer be necessary, making room for US exports to take their place.

As someone who lives near the Canadian border, I will tell you that they come down to America in the tens of thousands to buy our dirt cheap products. A 25% tariff is nothing compared to ridiculously high Canadian prices. Trump doesn't want to put a tariff on Canada and mexico, he would prefer they actually police the borders.
