I think the big difference now is that more people have begun acknowledge that the benefits of DEI have been eclipsed by the fact they're expensive and simply aren't yielding the results we hoped for.

Everybody is speculating about what happened in DC, and some are suggesting that the problem is whether the woman was a DEI hire in the military. I personally despise speculation in situations like that, but I understand why people are doing it. I complained about this for the last 30 years. I worked for the state and when I had to hire somebody to work in my department I was told I had to hire a minority. I refused to do it. I hired people according to skill set and experience. They were not happy.

In university admissions white people were strongly discriminated against (though not as much as Asians), while latinos and blacks were admitted with significantly lower SAT/ACT scores and grades.

On the other hand, in the workplace whites tended to get a leg up, at least in the private and non-academic sector.

In my opinion we should have race-blind processes for both hiring and admissions. Race should never make difference there; we should strive for total justice.
