Why did Trump agree to this?

Mexico agreed to put 10,000 of their soldiers on the border to help deal with illegal immigration. This is the total number. Previously they had 15,000 on the border. How is it that they reduced the number by 5,000 and Trump considers it a good thing? The only conclusion I can come to is that he had no idea how many soldiers were already there.

the measure then is how many people cross the border illegally, how many die trying to cross illegally, how many kids are trafficked, suffering and misery index on their side, safety of citizens on USA side, and cost of products such immigrants influenced.

I'm saying it's a reduction of the 15,000 they had before they reached this deal with Trump. I never bothered to figure out how long they had that 15,000 on the border. Maybe near the end of the Biden administration.

Their main concern is stopping US weapons from getting there which was part of the deal they made with Trump. So, their troops may not have been there to stop illegal crossings north, but they were there.
