That has always been true, never more so then in a time when only a few people controlled nearly all information of importance.

In the past most important information was local information pertaining to your family and community as that is where everything happened.

As everyone could see everything with their own eyes it was difficult to convince everyone of anything that was not true in that area.

As we became more integrated and centralized what information was important moved more and more beyond what we could see or hear with our own eyes and ears. And thus ever more reliant upon what was really a small number of information gatekeepers.

This centralization of important information and gatekeeping of the same actually peaked in the 20th centery. With the advent of big goverment and mass media thou a small number of networks of news papers and TV all telling the same cherry picked story.

It is most likely at that time rather than today that we were convened of the most absurdists. Today Information is far more distributed thou there are still major gatekeepers from google, facebook, twitter, GAG, there are countless other forums by which information can become known.

So we are really just becoming aware of the absurdities they are still trying to sell us and would have once believed for the first time via these alternate sources of information.

Whereas before in the 20th centery we had no way of knowing.
