What did you think of a Woman in Congress making Rape Accusations in House speech?

Question

South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace made an hour-long speechon the House floor in which she claimed that she, and others, were raped and sexually assaulted, naming people, yet no one was prosecuted.

Some claim this was politically-motivated, since one of the accused is her likely opponent in an upcoming election.

Okay so, the issue with this is… She clearly knows the law and this would be seen as “defamation” if the claims were fake which allows the affected party to take her to court to gain compensation for the ruining of their reputation for one. For two, since the ‘alleged abuser’ is likely her political opponent this coming election cycle then if he were to lose he could strengthen the defamation case even more.

Now, is it possible for a woman representative in government to be raped / sexually assaulted and do the right thing by calling out abusers while standing up for fellow women screwed over? Yeah! In fact, I would support it however is it likely that the opponent is the one who would be the abuser….. No especially since a lot of politicians will play dirty if it means upholding their political influence which she is not happy to give up. Just seems like another “Amber Heard” type pretending to be Pro Woman while playing the victim to get what she is after when she clearly isn’t a rape victim of the opponent.

If there is a trial or investigation to get to the bottom of it then that will be good because we get this cleared up however I don’t think a defamation case or sexual abuse case will happen honestly.

I don't see what motivated her to hang out her dirty laundry during her hour long speech.
I think that it was the wrong place, wrong time to bring that up.
I wouldn't have wanted to be there listening to that! I mean, was she just taking an opportunity to slander her opponent? What if she's lying and now the people will believe her.
Some people will go to great lengths to win and get what it is they want.
The people that had to listen to her couldn't do a darn thing to help her. I wonder if she went to the police station and reported it and had a rape kit done?

Dumb and dangerous. If she was raped then she should be making the argument to the police, I'm sure she's the type who'd get listened to. Now she's opened herself up to being sued for defamation and provided ammo to misogynists who'll use her as evidence all rape accusations are false.

She only did it on the floor of Congress so she wouldn't have to deal with any slander or libel accusations because of the immunity of the "speech and debate" clause when you're a congress person. No more complicated than that
