Trump plays by Trump's rules. The constitution, the bill of rights and the laws of the United States Of America doesn't mean sh*t to him (unless it favors him in one way or another). He's proved it many times, before, during and after his first term.

The orange president is a convicted rapist and fraudster. He staged an insurrection to overturn the result of an election just because he lost. He has called every single judicial action taken against him "show trials" and "political witch hunts", without any kind of basis in reality. He took away classified documents, stored it all haphazardly in a bathroom of his mansion, showed some of them to guests, refused to return them when asked until the FBI had to raid his mansion to retrieve them. During his trials, he ignored gag orders and b*tched out loud about judges and members of their family.

Justice is in fact a joke to him.

Now he's doing all sorts of massive changes without congressional approval. He's letting an unelected moron tamper with sensitive information.

His recent moves have been blocked or otherwise contested by court orders and lawsuits. The top brown-nosers in the GOP do everything they can to demonize judges who are doing their lawful duty, calling them "outlaws", threatening them with impeachment or termination.

It's pretty clear that Trump and his sycophants couldn't give a sh*t less about the US laws and its constitution. All the while pretending that they are working to "fix" america: an obvious subversion of reality only impressionable MAGA nitwits can fall for.

The result of that debate is that it's currently unfeasable without raising some major etchical issues, due to the nature of mental illnesses and doctors and nurses being too unprepared, unspecialized or unwilling to take such a serious and overly complicated decision. Then again, the patients are the one who make the demand, but from the health professionals' POV, how to know who qualifies and who doesn't, especially when the desire to die is a symptom of many mental illnesses?

The problem is that these patients are often, or almost always, in mental states where their judgement is biased, and/or impulsive and/or untrustworthy, when it comes to such a serious matter. That's why it's extremely difficult to apply, if not impossible, in the case of mental illness patients who request medical assistance in dying.
