I'm sick of hearing Europeans criticize Usa over the war in Ukraine. I'm European, but the USA has given more military aid to Ukraine than many European countries.
The Europeans had the opportunity a long time ago to take over from the Americans by giving massive aid to the Ukraine, but apart from the rhetoric, the Europeans did nothing. Today, European leaders can criticize the USA, but they should look in the mirror first.
And again, I'm not saying this as an American Nationalist, or as a Trumpist, I'm saying this as a European and French woman..
MAGA republicans have blocked or attempted to block financial aid to Ukraine many times during the last competent administration. Now Trump is acting like they own Ukraine because of the funding that they never wanted to give.
What fucking right does the orange turd have to discuss Ukraine's fate without Ukraine and without Europe's involvement?
They have provided their fair share and, contrary to the US under Trump, they will continue to support them.

I have friends in Britain and Germany who I've talked with about this at length and they both agree with you and as an American so do I but that doesn't mean I'm not going to criticize my country and think it's still fair for Europe to criticize America. America is the head of the NATO basically because we've had the position of NATO's security advisor.
America is supposed to set higher standards than this for these things because of that position it's our responsibility in things like this to take the lead on military matters and basically be the world police. We're supposed to hold ourselves to a higher standard and be better than this. Frankly I think Britain should take over the position. I think they're more reliable and they are a military powerhouse in their own right.
They have nukes, a well-trained and supplied professional army and one of the best navy's in the world. They're country is in a very strategically convenient place and historically time and time again has proven very, very hard to invade after the Middle Ages.
The EU has given over $145 billion to Ukraine since the war and taken in huge numbers of refugees.

Given America's power and contribution it's only fair they have a say in the peace deal but shoving the EUs and Ukraines nose out of it and forcing a Trump/Putin deal on them just adds weight to my theory Trump and Putin have been in this together from day one. I would not be surprised if Trump and Putin have plans to carve up Europe between them. Expect the arc de triumphe to be renamed arc de Trump in the near future.
Trump is showing that he has no clue what he is doing - giving-in to bullies never works and he seems to sowing the seeds for a much large conflict in the future. There is a special place in hell for anyone who voted for him.
I don't hear much European criticism about the United States helping in Ukraine, so I don't know where you picked that up. We are all glad about the American weapon deliveries, as they are very useful for the Ukrainian army. I do hear though, criticism about the United States not being really reliable, changing their policies short-term and mixing up domestic policies with foreign policies. For example MAGA Mike Johnson wanting to extort new border/immigration laws from the Democrats and in return holding up Ukraine aid for eight months or so.
None of the European countries in NATO even meet the minimum contributions for membership, so I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary that they are completely full of sh*t when it comes to "supporting Ukraine." No doubt, the only reason they care is because they use it for money laundering and other scams just like the US does. Forget Ukraine; they're not even close to ready to defend themselves.
That said, it wasn't that long ago when Macron was advocating for a land invasion of Russia. I don't support that at all, but I would love to see all these weak leaders attempt to manage that without the US doing basically everything for them.
Well, as someone who is both American and German, I think it needs to be mentioned that due to its location, Ukraine is a much bigger issue for European NATO members than it is for the US, where there really isn't any national interest and only downsides if Ukraine is given security guarantees, especially NATO membership.
The larger issue, though, is that 80 years after WWII, the US still carries a disproportionate amount of the load for European security. That simply isn't sustainable, and the Russia-Ukraine war has shone a greater spotlight on this issue, particularly given Ukraine's desire to join NATO.
As Yanis Varoufakis aptly put it more than a year, possibly two years ago, European stance on the matter has always been "defeating Russia"

So expecting Ukraine to fight a proxy war in their behalf, while not even participating in the aid that significantly, and then complain about US is just flat out stupid.
The reality is, Europe is insignificant, as you can see in this matter, or any other matter they are in a very weak position in global stage and they really don't have the power to enforce their policies, in case US doesn't back them up
There's a reason Turkish minister of foreign affairs, lashed out to France with "Our counterpart in Syria policy is US, we do not take note of countries who can't make decisions without US approval on this matter that doesn't concern them" a few months ago

The USA should have never given any money to Ukraine. It isn't our responsibility to help pathetic nations. We shouldn't be using our resources to defend Europe either. Let them fend for themselves, and pay the USA back for all the aid since WWII.
Ukraine is in Europe's backyard. European countries should have taken the lead in assisting Ukraine from the start. But the West made several bad mistakes with regard to Ukraine policy from the start. Not being realistic about Russia's historical interests in Ukraine was one of them.
Fact: the Europeans are already taking lead - the US has contributed 43% of the total support to Ukraine, the remaining 57% is from Europe and other countries. Also Russia's historic interest? So if China has a historic interest in Taiwan, they should just take it by force too?
Aside from the quantities, there did seem to be a lot of restrictions placed on Ukrainian responses with them. The UK broke some of them such as tanks and cruise missiles and then other countries followed.
I could understand Europe being hesitant, since it could be invaded by Russia. Perhaps it is more fear based?
I don't think Russia is capable of invading any serious EU country with impunity. Even Ukraine been a massive challenge to them in their historic heartlands.

Not taking a country in Nato, but then making it a Nato outpost is just counterintuative if you ask me. I'm sure a real expert would find many faults with this reasoning of theirs.

@Darklydarkened With Europe it doesn't help that many countries are indeed small. About 15% of europeans are in countries with less than 30 mill.
I am comparing with mine. UK France, Italy are definitely more capable but some queries on whether Germany is. But pretty much Australians have more capability behind them than 45% of Nato or 37% if Germany is more capable than us.
Yet they live within 2,500 Km or less of Moscow. At least we have 9,000 KM between us and Beijing.
A country or nation exists out of its own. One of the ''traditional'' definitions of what justifies (or makes) a country is the ability to keep up its own existence out of its own energy.
Politically, there are no ''obligations'' towards other countries, except for specific treaties or agreements.
However - on the humanitarian side there can be reasons to interfere.

Yes, they're being hypocritical on this. As I understand it they were still buying Russian gas in a roundabout way as well. They also took advantage of the fact that US was funding UN almost exclusively for decades. 193 member states and the US pays ~25% of the budget. Hopefully now they'll meet and exceed their obligations like we do.

The entire European Union has given a small fraction of what the US paid into the war in ukraine. In their defense however , the EU was not on Zalensky's payroll like the Bidens were.
