To a certain extent, but I believe you should work hard for what you want.
If it's another person you want to be in a relationship with, it is true you may not get the person you originally wanted, but you will find someone equally good.

What does that even mean?

I think it means that you won’t get everything you ever wanted, like the perfect job, partner, looks or wealth, but you find you do get things you need, which could be a stable partner who’s a good person, but not handsome, exciting or rich. Someone you needed in your life; and so on for other things, not being powerful, like you wanted, but having lots of good friends, not having the perfect house, but having a good enough home to live well. Etc.
