As an American I didn't realize Canada was as centralized as it was.

That Canada had more limited jury nullification, lacked as independently elected local & state goverment.

That said he kind of understated how independent and dynamic American State level goverment is. American states don't really have any direct connection to the Federal goverment except thou things like deals and transactions.

That is why if congress or the president want something they often have to pay states to do it and not every state goes along.

legalizing pot for example was really state governments just withdrawing their cooperation with federal pot laws.

I’m not going to compare Canadians to Americans since they are our closest neighbors in both spirit & in border.
Canadians only stereotype is how nice they are, while Americans is “AYE I’M WALKIN’ HERE!” or maybe that is just New Yorkers in particular.
Anyways, I love my fellow Americans and my neighbors to the North so I cannot cherry pick who is more empowered though I will say from Canadians’ perspective, trade was good until American’s leaders decided to do tariffs…. Now we are in a tariff war on each other’s imports which raises prices domestically on both sides which doesn’t ‘empower’ more than divide both sides equally.
I believe we should be working together, not tariffing each other like this. We need trade to be smooth, not rigid / jagged. Those are my thoughts and feelings, love ya whether you are a Canadian or an American or a mix of both, cheers.

Recall Canada was founded in large part on its rejection of the Deceleration of the Rights of men to self goverment 1776. So we really have no reason to respect that which they would not respect themself. They wanted an imperial master.

Canada does have free speech, the bullshit you hear from right wing nut jobs is inaccurate. However there are reasonable limits on free speech:
Incitement of violence
Promoting Genocide
Perjury (same as USA)
Promoting sexual acts with minors or publishing material thereof
Books like Mein Kemf are also banned.

A ligitiamte federal court has no power to abolish any right except in conspiracy with a similarly lawless executive and legislator.

So at any point congress or the president could have impounded that lawless edict.

Canada is pretty much horrible with taxes and medical. Way too woke. Drugs and alcohol are overwhelmingly prevalent after Covid. The leadership has their heads waaay up their asses.
