If Michael Jackson ran for office in 1984, would he have beaten Ronald Reagan?

Ignore that he was in his 20s at the time.

When taking into account his Thriller popularity, his international reach, and vice-presidential candidates (depending on what you think of the party he'd be)—what were his chances?

He seems like a Green Party individual to me; however, that did not exist yet, so Independent it is. Democrats and Republicans seem too extreme and divisive for his beliefs and public image interests at the time.

If he went the independent route, he'd obviously have to rely on the public for their financial support, etc. So winning the popular vote would be a priority over the electoral college, so his chances right off the bat are already slim. Unless there's a couple of Democrat billionaires who would see potential in rallying their support behind him over Reagan after the shooting incident.

Michael Jackson was seen as a musical genius though not a political leader.

Ronald Reagan had the Actors Union, Congress Hearings, speaking at political conferences, giving speeches, etc. to be able to hold water to be the Republican Nominee.

Issue is, if Michael Jackson was the Democratic Nominee he would be at a difficult position since he is young while Ronald Reagan was old. Reagan’s defense was “with age, comes experience”. He asserted dominance by speaking out against the failures of the Carter Administration trying to bring back the hostages (turns out in a historical oversight, hostage holders weren’t going to hold onto them forever and was most likely a political ploy by his campaign).

Either way, I believe MJ would’ve lost though he definitely wouldn’t kill Unions, try to uplift the rich & powerful, and sell weapons to nations overseas / give aid to ‘freedom fighters’ that would eventually lead to 9/11 while promoting environmental protections and protections for the animals because he was truly a man who cared about the environment. RIP Michael.

Michael Jackson wouldn't have beaten Ronald Reagan for millions of reasons (many of those millions being southern racist voters).

But the biggest reason that Jackson wouldn't have beaten Reagan in 1984 is simply because Jackson was only 26 years old on Election Day 1984. You must be 35 to be President, so he couldn't even run until the 1996 Election.
