the reason is super unclear. I've heard scientists say some toxins only cause defects two or three generations later. why... who knows. maybe it mutates a redundant gene (?) we need to get serious about reversing pollution anyway

Autism is a spectrum, it’s more common than people think. Sometimes you have someone so autistic they’re nonverbal and regularly knock their head on walls. Sometimes you have someone autistic who just struggles with the concept of sarcasm. Sometimes someone is autistic and doesn’t know and the only evidence they have is that they like their house at an extremely specific temperature. There’s nothing evil or wrong or dangerous about autism, and frankly I’m of the belief that everyone already is some kind of autistic. We all have little, irrational things that bother is for reasons we can’t completely understand, that can be autism.

Rejoice maybe? Autistic people have a pretty good chance of becoming extremely specialized in subjects which is exactly what society needs right now to fuel our continual technological development. Also as far as I know we have not actually had an increase in autism among society but rather become better at diagnosing it AKA finding out that people had it rather than just being the village weirdo who is strangely into trains.

If you're talking about my update then you can Google the jeans on the X chromosome specifically linked to autism and the theories that increased redundancy in girls is why there are less girls with autism than boys
