Because audience should be accustomed to make sacrifices, while our elites would sell 99% of mankind after thinking less than a second, if they were spared and their bodies wouldn't be turned into human meat food rations.
This isn't different in war movies, where stupid bravery is glorified and smart collaboration with stronger enemy for the sake of survival despised. They want us stupid, obedient and willing to fight for lost cases.

Fear is the most powerful tool in human society to keep everyone walking in the same direction within a closed off border. We are exactly the same as sheeps being hunted by a pack of wolfs. Whenever we are scared we tend to follow the rest of the group
