Trump wanting to join the British Common Wealth after invitation from the King of UK?

Okey, this came straight out of the blue. So Trump just posted this:

Sooo.. Many people were afraid that electing Trump would result in USA having a King again. I dont think anyone believed that King would be the British royalty.

Now then, for people who probably does not truly understand what the British Commonwealth is, hello Trump, I am talking to you, the British common wealth is not just a trade alliance but has a lot of heavy connotations built into it. For instance, the British monarchy is the symbolic head of the commonwealth.

Another thing that is fairly interesting is that you are not to have tariffs and trade obstructions between commonwealth nations. That means Donny boy has to drop his pants and bare it all for no barrier must come between "family" so to speak. I wonder how Donald Trump, the man who repeatedly said that the word "Tariff" is the most beautiful word in the English dictionary would react to that but I digress.

So did you have Trump wanting to symbolically re-instate the British monarchy over the USA on your 2025 bingo card? I certainly did not.

This is a massive misinterpretation of a diplomatic pleasantry. Trump saying “I love King Charles” doesn’t mean he’s pledging allegiance to the British crown or trying to drag the U. S. back into monarchy. It’s basic diplomacy and friendly optics. No one serious actually believes Trump wants to submit to the Commonwealth or undo the Revolution. It’s just another example of people trying to twist normal political interactions into some dramatic narrative that doesn’t exist.

Saying that the "secret offer" which the article which Trump himself linked to said was an invitation to the British Commonwealth "sounds good" is very much an approving statement from Trump which would mean that King Charles would be the symbolic king of USA.

This was never about USA getting another king. This was about Trump being stupid and not knowing what the hell he is doing in power and diplomatically combined with a funny coincidence of this playing into US history with the UK.

Saying something "sounds good" is an endorsement. Having the PRESIDENT OF USA post something on his OFFICIAL SOCIAL MEDIA is an official statement of USA (and also recorded in the US archives by the way which I also think is fucking hilarious).

And no I do not think Trump would do this and no I do not think Trump thought this through, that is kind of part of the issue actually. This whole question is about Trumps mental capacity and his suitability for his office. AKA I am calling him stupid and doing things he does not understand.

Even if you just wants to paint all this over as a "simple mistake" and that Trump "did not mean it", that does not change the fact that these are examples of communications that undermines USA's credibility and reputation. In other words it is making USA look stupid and incompetent because it can't control its messaging and the people in charge obviously does not understand basic aspects of their duties such as what the commonwealth is and the appropriate position that USA should have with it.

Trump is not a civilian who had a "Whopsie" moment. He is the president. You should begin to treat him as one me thinks.

At no point did I insinuate that this was policy. I was making fun of Trumps statements, nothing more. And yes, every commentary and statement of a PRESIDENT carries actual weight. That is the whole point of the office. Having Trump stumble around like an idiot while being president of USA is BAD for the USA.

This is not something unique to Trump either. Anytime another world leader of note speaks out in error they also get absolutely brutalized for it both on the diplomatic scene and in public such as news. When you are the president of USA you are expected to behave accordingly both in official capacity and in private capacity. That goes without saying.

It doesn't mean that Charles would be symbolic King of USA at all. It is not the British Commonwealth either but the Commonwealth of Nations of which Charles is the titular head.

Being a member of an organization with a monarch as titular head doesn't make you a monarchy. There 36 republics in 58 member Commonwealth of Nations of which Charles is not the monarch of.

If the US did join the Commonwealth of Nations it would simply mean it was in another club of countries and not much more.

The US never needed a secret invitation because it could always have applied to join. At any time in the past or future because of the historical connection.

Even so Gabon and Togo joined without any connection at all and were originally French colonies not British.

@RavVid You must not be very versed in history then. The commonwealth of nations was originally named the British Commonwealth of Nations through the Balfour Declaration of 1926. And I quote:
"autonomous Communities within the British Empire, equal in status, in no way subordinate one to another in any aspect of their domestic or external affairs, though united by a common allegiance to the Crown, and freely associated as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations."

Which highlights both the common usage of "The British Commonwealth" in modern language and the fact that the royalty is very much a symbolic head of the commonwealth. If USA joins the commonwealth then its accurate to say that they have a symbolic royalty.

Also this was never about USA needing an invitation. Its about the cultural reasons why it would never have accepted one even if it was offered.

Let's assume this was real, or at least Trump thinks this is real. Would it change anything? Trump already sees himself as the king, and he won't accept Charles as the king anyway. Probably because Charles is less senile than Trump, and Trump loves to call people senile who are in better shape than him.

There is no offer. It's just tabloid speculation. Both Charles and the government know given current tensions offering anything to America would cause uproar in the UK. The only offer Charles can make is to help repair damaged US/Canada relations through non political means.

Non-commonwealth people may not understand the commonwealth. All you need is a substantial historical connection and the US has that. Some commonwealth countries are Republics whilst others are Monarchies. Clearly the US would remain a republic.

by the way The King of UK is King of Australia, Canada and several of other countries. The real importance of this how the transfer of power happens from one government to the next. Clearly that would not be the case in the US.

I am sure some American will object to having fought a revolution against George the III but in actual fact you didn't. You fought a revolution against the the British Parliament. They were the arseholes guys! George III was a kindly soul with a major interest in growing turnips hence he was called Farmer George.

The commonwealth is a 56 state strong free trade organisation. King Charles is the head of it but you can be a Republic like India and be a member. As a former British colony the US has as much right as any former British empire country to join.
