And these people are the least able to replace that funding at the local or state level. Most of them are low population rural states with low incomes and high poverty. California has larger economy than all but a few countries. Yes, they will lose a large absolute dollar amount. Bit it's a drop in the bucket for that state and easily replaced. The 10 states who will be most affected are rural with a high degree of poverty. They are fucked. They have no way to increase their education spending by 19-23% overnight with state and local taxes. So their education systems, already a joke, just get worse. They become less able to compete for jobs. And the poverty goes on for another generation. But they asked for this.

States and counties and cities and twins have always been in full control of education in their jurisdictions. No teachers were on the DOE payroll. DOE published some basic standards and allocated additional funds to poor and rural areas where it was needed most. What those areas did with the money is their problem.

Shutting down DOE doesn’t fix the root cause of the problem. It just makes it worse.

But the people in those areas voted to defund their kids education. So I’m on board. Shut it down. Fuck em.

that's largley above my pay grade to answer. my wife works in education and sees various endless issues. one is leaving dysfunctional and unprepared kids in classes too long, endless trying different teaching methodologies when the old one worked better, keeping poor performing teachers that are either ill trained/emotionally not ready to handle class.
the biggest issue... is parents. F'd up parents (lack thereof/etc) make messed up kids that trash schools and classes and themselves. good luck finding a way to fix that.
beyond that I don't know the beaurocracy, but I'm sure a lot of it is fat.
I see $ not distributed well locally, but as well lack of discipline in schools... because of lawyers and idiot parents creating messed up kids.
I'm sure there is no perfect answer.

Do you actually think DOE is hiring and firing teachers in West Buttfuck Albama? Hog Holler West Virginia? Do you think DOE employees are in every school in the country making decisions every day?
