What makes someone believe the earth is flat?

don't know, something is distorted in their brain isn't it. could be hormonal, chemical... poisons accumulated. don't know.

thing is they believe it to the point they will try to prove it, and die trying. The brain is what is doing all the perceiving, there is something wired different in their brain. Brain scans, chemical makeups and such, gut microbes... I'd be looking there. maybe we should do some research projects to find out... it's fascinating.

Contrarianism, distrust of authority, conspiratorial mindset etc.. Basically, they have a deep distrust in the sources of information around them (rightly or wrongly) which has made them overcompensate in the other direction and start questioning basic things such as the shape of the earth. They usually arrive here through other conspiracy theories, usually involving the government conspiring against its own citizens.

It's one of the easiest ways to make money on YouTube, other social media, sell books, etc. There are monetized videos on YouTube of people sitting in their car and ranting about a flat Earth and how stupid globers are, taken with just their cellphone.

so to put it simply the internet + group think = stupid gullible thinking.

People who want to believe that they are smarter than most people. I notice this with conspiracy theorists. They are so confident in saying dumb shit because they want to believe that their mind is “open” and that they are more intelligent than the rest of the population.
